From one of our favorite local distilleries, Catoctin Creek - Virginia's most award-winning whisky distillery - we have a stunning treat for our long-time followers of the Pearson's barrel programs. Quite possibly our best and most unique barrel pick yet, we have selected a 92-Proof Rye Whisky aged for 3 years and then finished in a Laphroaig Single Malt Scotch Whisky barrel for 6 months. The marriage of 100% Rye Whisky in Virginia oak and the peaty Laphroaig cask create a highly memorable sipping experience.

Pearson's Staff Tasting Note:

The whisky has a beautiful medium amber core with deep gold reflections on the rim. The classic rye whisky notes we love are all here, including gingerbread, tobacco, mint, cocoa, and vanilla. The smoke from the Laphroaig barrel is perfectly integrated and compliments these classic rye notes. "Never chill filtered" is another key point about the flavor of this whisky; since they do not strip the oils and esters from the whisky for cosmetic purposes, to eliminate the natural haze of the whisky, the whisky is naturally oily and mouthcoating- and the flavors pop! The finish is very long and rewarding, and we wonder if we have successfully married two highly desirable whisky styles- Virginia Rye and Single Malt Scotch. I think we have- when we bottled this at the distillery this week, every one in the room knew we had picked an outstanding barrel that will not last long.
