2013 World Whiskies Awards: Best Rye American Whiskey No Age Statment
While most rye whiskeys are made with corn as an ingredient, this is a unique rye whiskey made only with rye and malted barley. This spicy and full-bodied 100 proof Straight Rye Whiskey pays tribute to the classic American whiskey style and the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897. Colonel Edmund Haynes Taylor, Jr. was instrumental in passing this act that safeguarded consumers from bogus whiskies being sold in the industry. With its passage, drinkers could trust that a bottle labeled 'Bottled in Bond' was genuine crafted whiskey. The label required that a bottle contained only barrels distilled by a single distillery, in a single season, stored in a bonded warehouse for four years before bottling, and bottled at 100 proof. This whiskey follows these regulations and is worthy of the quality of its namesake.
On the nose, this whiskey is full of dried fruit, black pepper and a touch of fresh dill. A small sip brings an array of flavors both sweet and savory with a terrific balance of dark spices and subtle caramel overtones. The finish is especially pleasing with an oaky dryness that lingers just long enough."
"[...] almost all you want from a Rye: so clean, so intent on purpose, that the grain seems to transform into Demerara granules with the most polite oils and ulmo honey notes spreading all far and wide and with sensational weight. [...]" 97 Points Jim Murray's Whisky Bible
