Chardonnay Virtual Tasting This Weekend |
“Chardonnay is the most diverse and most planted white wine grape in the world. Chardonnay wine ranges from rich and buttery to super zesty.” --- Madeline Puckette, Wine Folly Dear Wine Friends, This weekend I am delighted to have two leading people from the Boisset Collection to lead a discussion on Chardonnay for this Saturday, October 17 at 6pm via Zoom. Terence F. Connaughton, Regional Account Manager, and Neil Ruane, Export Manager, bring many years of sales experience, gusto, and wine knowledge to the table and will be able to answer any of your questions regarding one of the most diverse and exciting wines in the world: Chardonnay. To accomplish this, we will be using three wines from the Boisset portfolio to really showcase differences in terroir, climate, and winemaking styles to show off this diversity: 2018 Raymond Napa Valley Chardonnay, $24.99/bottle, BUY NOW Boisset’s style under Stephanie Putnam is more restrained than most using fine French oak. Made in a robust, richly layered style, this white speaks to thick flavors of lemon-cream pie, apple and pear. Sleek, soft and hearty in oak, it has finishing touches of vanilla, nutmeg and anise that linger and reside gingerly on the palate. 2018 J. Moreau & Fils Chablis, $21.98/bottle, BUY NOW Viticulturalist, Lucie Depuydt leads J. Moreau & Fils which has been making Chablis for over 200 years. The wine in the purest style, will go through the complete malolactic fermentation and age on its lees for 8 months. This will give that wine it’s intense nose of fresh fruits and a creamy texture in the mouth. 2017 Bouchard-Ainé Bourgogne Chardonnay, $19.99/bottle, BUY NOW The white Bourgogne is mainly made of Chardonnay grapes harvested on selected terroirs in the south of Burgundy: in the Maconnais area and Côte Chalonnaise. A small part of the cuvée comes from the Côte de Beaune vineyards. This is where the viniculturist plays a very important role in the selection of the grapes, as she is responsible of the Chardonnay expression in the respect of the House's style. This wine is very expressive on the nose, opening with notes of flower and honey, then giving off aromas of fresh fruit. On the palate, it show perfectly balanced acidity and notes of citrus, candied fruits, vanilla and acacia flowers. What to expect: - Introduction to history of the producer and area.
