Special Tasting of the Bonpas Rhone Reds

For over 700 years, the historic Bonpas stronghold, from the French "Bon Passage," has watched over the safe crossing of the Durance river along the historic route that once linked Rome with Avignon. This impressive site, known as the Chartreuse de Bonpas, is the historic center and tasting room for a winery that truly captures the terroir of the Rhone Valley, including Gigondas and Chateauneuf du Pape. Now back in the DC market for a limited time, we are excited to have open this weekend three truly stunning wines from the excellent 2017 and 2018 vintages. 

2018 Bonpas "Plan de Dieu" Cotes du Rhone Rouge, Grenache & Syrah

This wine has a beautiful deep ruby color and reveals an intense bouquet wtih aromas of black fruits and sweet spices.Pure and sophisticated on the palatefeaturing complex flavors of spices, licorice, and notes of coco, rounded out with velvety tannins and a long finish. Price: $15.99 BUY NOW

2017 Bonpas "Grand Prieur" Gigondas, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre

From vineyards at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, we have an outstanding value and a chiselled wine with an intense garnet red color. All in finesse, a harmonious combination of fine and tasty tannins as well as delicate flavors of sweet spices and ripe fruit. Ripe red cherry, blackberry, white pepper, and smoked meat are all here. 2017 Bonpas "Bonus Passus" Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge, Grenache, Syrah, & Mourvedre
Intense garnet red color with purple hues. This is pure Chateauneuf in one of its most beautiful expressions. There are complex and intense aromas with notes of morello cherry in brandy, complemented by aromas of tobacco, licorice and sweet spices. These powerful aromas are supported by a concentrated palate that is ripe and has persistent tannins. I recommend decanting this wine for an hour. Price: $52.99 BUY NOW

Gary from Empson Importers will pour a selection of special Italian wines including Speri Ripasso and Amarone, Monte Antico Toscana Rosso and the flagship Supremus.
