BODEGAS BORSAO MONTE OTON CAMPO DE BORJA 2008 Wine Spectator 87 points: "Round and juicy, showing rich, ripe cherry and raspberry fruit, with sweet vanilla accents, light tannins and just enough acidity to keep it all lively. Drink now through 2014."
Stephen Tanzer”s International Wine Cellar 88 points: “Opaque ruby. Black raspberry and cracked pepper on the nose, plus a hint of rose. Tangy, focused red berry flavors show good energy and betray no rough edges. The spicy note repeats on the nicely persistent, juicy finish. This is an incredible value.”

PARADOS DE DON MANUEL VILLAFANE WINERMAKER”S SELECT RED Winery Notes: “The wine is comprised of a special blend of three different red wine grapes that we have found fit magnificently together. They use 40% of Sagiovese (the Italian grape of Chianti), 40% of Tempranillo (the rich and earthy red of Spanish Riojas), and 20% of Malbec (the most famous red grape of Argentina) to make a wine that tastes comparable or better than much more expensive red wines. The Sangiovese adds the lovely red fruit, the Tempranillo adds earthy and rich notes, and the Malbec gives the wine it depth of fruit and body. A very impressive red wine for a nominal price. The red wine is a very versatile because of the blend of red grapes of which it is comprised."
International Wine Review 90 points: "The Winemaker's Select is a highly attractive innovative blend of 40% Sangiovese, 40% Tempranillo and 20% Malbec. Star bright and medium ruby in color, it displays a pleasing red berry fruit nose with surprising intensity of ripe concentrated flavor and elegance on the palate."

d”ARENBERG THE STUMP JUMP SHIRAZ 2008
Wine Spectator 90 points: "Ripe and open-textured, this is impressive for the way it packs in the cherry, blackberry and raspberry flavors and doesn”t take the foot off the gas pedal until the mineral-inflected finish has played through. Drink now through 2018."
d”ARENBERG THE STUMP JUMP RED 2008
Wine Spectator 90 points: "Light in texture and fragrant with floral, berry and beet aromas, this plays its fresh flavors against refined tannins, lingering effortlessly. Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2013. 5,000 cases imported."
CHATEAU MONTAUD COTES DE PROVENCE ROSE 2009 Winery Notes: “Rose Wine with varietals of Syrah, Cinsault, Grenache, and Tibouren. The color is a lovely peachy-orange and it shows scents of ripe melons, citrus and ripe strawberries. The flavors are light and fruity with brisk acidity.”
Wine Spectator 90 points: “Concentrated, with an intense juiciness to the dried berry, cherry, red currant and glazed white fruit flavors. The long, vibrant finish features cream and white chocolate notes."
CLEAN SLATE RIESLING 2009
GRAYSON CELLARS CABERNET SAUVIGNON LOT 10 2009
The Wine Advocate 89 points: "Make no mistake about it, this Cabernet will not make old bones and is not one to cellar. Instead, it gives you all its got right up front when you pop and pour now. It's one smooth operator of a Cabernet that keeps folks coming back for more, especially at this price, it tastes like a Cabernet in the $25-40 range. An incredible value, this 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 100% French oak, boasts a dark ruby/purple color as well as a big, rich nose of blackberries, medium body, supple tannins, and surprising intensity and length. Just amazing!”
GRAYSON CELLARS MERLOT LOT 6 2008
The Wine Advocate 88 points: “Even more remarkable is the 2008 Merlot Lot 6 (3,200 cases). I am not a big fan of California Merlot, but this offering is surprisingly complex. A dark ruby/purple color is followed by notes of white chocolate, black cherries, black currants, and hints of spice and oak. Velvety tannins, medium body, and lots of fruit depth as well as a seductive style result in a wine."
GRAYSON CELLARS CHARDONNAY LOT 11
The Wine Advocate: "There are 15,000 cases of the Chardonnay, which is completely fermented and aged in stainless steel. Elegant honeysuckle, orange blossom, and tropical fruit aromas are followed by a nicely-textured, medium-bodied Chardonnay displaying outstanding purity, freshness, and overall equilibrium. Enjoy it over the next year.”
GRAYSON CELLARS ZINFANDEL LOT 12 2009
DI MAJO NORANTE TERRA DEGLI OSCI SANGIOVESE 2008 Winery Notes: “Dry and mellow wine, with a bright red colour, fresh and fruity bouquet with a hint of violet and red berries and a trace of leather. Ideal with hors d”oeuvres, starters, game, meats and cheeses.”
The Wine Advocate 90 points: “The 2008 Sangiovese Terre degli Osci is an incredibly delicious, full-bodied wine with gorgeous clarity and definition. Made in a bold, fruit-driven style, the wine offers terrific depth and a long, polished finish. This harmonious red is a knockout!”
FALESCO VITIANO ROSSO CABERNET SAUVIGNON/ SANGIOVESE/ MERLOT 2008
Winery Notes: “This is a blockbuster young red wine with explosive, luscious aromas. Vitiano Rosso is deep ruby-red in color, and offers a wide range of fruit and spice aromas, including black cherry jam, licorice, and tobacco leaf. This versatile wine pairs well with a wide array of food, including meat, pasta, and pizza. It is best enjoyed in its youth when its fresh fruit character is most evident. Vitiano Rosso is a perennial value and must-buy.”
The Wine Advocate 89 points: "The 2008 Vitiano Rosso (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese) is a racy, sleek wine that impresses with its layers of perfumed red cherries and sweet toasted oak. The wine offers terrific clarity and precision in a slightly taut, focused style for this offering. A few months of bottle age seems prudent. According to proprietor Riccardo Cotarella, the bottle variation that occasionally shows up in Vitiano is most likely attributable to the different amounts of time the various lots spend in bottle prior to arriving on the market. Clearly lots that have more time in bottle have the potential to show greater harmony than lots that have less time in bottle. That said, slight bottle variation issues here are a minor quibble for a wine that delivers so much value. "

SUMMERS “LA NUDE” UNOAKED CHARDONNAY 2008
Wine Advocate 88 points: “There are 5,000 cases of the stainless steel fermented and aged 2008 Chardonnay Le Nude. Melon, orange blossom, and zesty citrus oil notes emerge from this elegant, mid-weight, fresh, exuberant Chardonnay. Drink this delicious white wine over the next year.”
LAYER CAKE SHIRAZ 2009
Robert Parker”s Wine Advocate 90 points: "This was not an easy vintage in Australia, but you would never know it from this wine. As one expects from any South Australian Shiraz, it has oodles of fruit, a big, thick, juicy mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and lots of crème de cassis, blackberry, peppery, and tar-like notes in a deep, full-bodied, lush style that should drink nicely for 3-4 years as well. Keep in mind that what Jayson Woodbridge is doing is taking his winemaking team from Hundred Acre Vineyard, flying them around the world, and actually making these wines on site from top quality fruit. It is an innovative project, to say the least, but the proof is in the bottle.”
LAYER CAKE MALBEC 2008
The Wine Advocate 91 points: "Dense purple-colored with notes of blackberry, earth, roasted meats, and a hint of barbecue spice, this wine exhibits great fruit, delicious, full-bodied texture, silky tannins, and a long finish. It does taste more like a $30-50 bottle of Malbec than one that can be purchased for $15. It should drink nicely for at least 2-3 years. "
BORSAO TRES PICOS 2008
Stephen Tanzer”s International Wine Cellar 91 points: "Opaque purple. Exotically perfumed bouquet of dark berry preserves, smoky minerals, potpourri and Indian spices, with a strong note of cracked pepper; smells like a high-end northern Rhone wine. Very spicy and tightly focused, offering juicy red and dark berry flavors and sexy notes of candied flowers and cocoa powder. Finishes with a wallop of sweet red berries and lingering, seductive spiciness; as ridiculous a value as one can find these days. The yield for this wine was reportedly under two tons per acre."
TRITON 2008
BEN MARCO MALBEC 2008 Winery Notes: “Beautiful, deep purple color with perfumed aromas of ripe red fruits and roasted coffee beans. It is lush, full-bodied and penetrating on the palate with loads of chewy, currant jam flavors, bright acidity, and a touch of grip on the almost savory finish. This wine really unfolds with some air so try not to slurp it down in a rush, and it shows why the Argentine people are in love with Malbec.”
Robert Parker 90 points: "The 2008 Malbec, which contains 10% Bonarda, spent 11 months in 50% new French oak and 50% first use American oak. Purple-colored, it reveals an expressive nose of wood smoke, cinnamon, incense, and black cherry. Round, ripe, medium-bodied, and savory, this layered effort has a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Enjoy it over the next 5 years. " EDUCATED GUESS 2007
ROTHSCHILD FLECHAS DE LOS ANDES GRAN MALBEC 2007
Robert Parker”s Wine Advocate 92 points: “Flechas de Los Andes” 2007 Gran Malbec spent 14 months in 33% new French oak, 33% second fill French oak, and 34% in stainless steel. Opaque purple-colored, it reveals a brooding bouquet of cedar, espresso, violets, and black cherry. Medium- to full-bodied, on the palate it borders on opulence, with layers of succulent fruit, a smooth texture, spicy flavors, and a lengthy finish. It admirably combines power and elegance. It also over delivers in a very big way.”
SUMMERS CHARBONO NAPA VALLEY 2007 Winery Notes: "This unique varietal is only grown on eighty acres in all of California, fourteen of which are in Summers” Villa Andriana Vineyard. The earthy qualities of the wine reflect well in dishes such as Mushrooms stuffed with Smoked Gouda or Ragout of Wild Boar while the vibrant acidity makes it a pleasure to accompany perfectly ripe cherry tomatoes."
Wine Enthusiast 87 points: “Charbono is a variety that used to be more widely planted. It”s always a rustic wine, but it ages forever, and can develop sweet complexities. In its youth, it”s fruity, soft and tannic, with ripe blackberry and chocolate flavors.”
SUMMERS “ADRIANA” CABERNET CUVEE 2006 Wine Enthusiast 88 points: “Very ripe, showing upfront grilled blackberry and black currant flavors with hints of violets and licorice, and a firm application of smoky oak. Shows a pleasingly dry, classic structure. Best now, and a good buy for this price in upscale Napa Cab.”
Wine Advocate 88 points: “The serious 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Andriana”s Cuvee is a 6,500-case, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 20 months in French oak. It possesses a dark ruby/purple color as well as good structure and density, plenty of loamy soil, black currant, herb, and spice characteristics, and 5-6 years of drinkability.”

Robert Parker”s The Wine Advocate 89 points: "The 2008 Zinfandel Sonoma offers up copious amounts of blue, red, and black fruits as well as excellent purity, medium to full body, a supple texture, and enough acidity to provide vibrancy. It is a pure, elegant, substantial Zinfandel to drink over the next 3-4 years."
ROTHSCHILD FLECHAS DE LOS ANDES GRAN CORTE MALBEC 2006
MARTIN RAY CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2007
Winery Notes: "Our Cabernet Sauvignon begins with ever-changing aromas. Ripe plum and lush vanilla back aromatics thick with exotic spice and black currant fruit. The opulent palate is reminiscent of classic Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon. This bright and robust wine with superb balance and structure is full of lush plum and cherry flavors that extend into an elegant finish. Aged 20 months in French oak."
SONOMA CUTRER CHARDONNAY SONOMA COAST 2006
CHATEAU ST JEAN BELLE TERRE ALEXANDER VALLEY 2007
The Wine Advocate 93 points: "The 2007 Chardonnay Belle Terre Vineyard was put through full malolactic fermentation, making it the most showy, flamboyant wine of this quartet. It also possesses impressive minerality as well as attractive notes of apricots, tropical fruits, mangoes, honeysuckle, and a subtle touch of hazelnuts. This delicious, medium to full-bodied 2007 should drink well for 2-4 years."

LYNMAR ESTATE RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY 2006
Connoisseurs” Guide to California Wine 93 points: “On the one hand as rich as any of the Pinot Noirs in this month's review and, on the other, a slightly velvety, remarkably well-balanced wine, this outstanding effort from Lynmar is keyed in wonderfully pure, ripe-cherry fruit and sweetens the mix with just the right dose of oak. It is as long on the palate as it is deep in flavor, and it has all the right parts in the right places to improve even further over the next three to five years in your cellar.”
ORIN SWIFT CELLARS “THE PRISONER” 2008 NAPA VALLEY The "Prisoner" label is the flagship wine and about 30,000 cases are produced annually. The label is an etching of a prisoner drawn by the famous artist Goya. The grapes for this wine are sourced from high quality vineyards throughout the Napa Valley. It is typically a five varietal blend with Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Charbono and Petite Syrah. You won't see this varietal blend anywhere else. Regardless of the price this is an excellent tasting wine and fits the palate like a glove. The nose is elegant with herbaceous qualities with even a slight aroma of basil. The Zinfandel contributes a lot of fruit on the palate including raspberries and licorice. It is a very well balanced wine available at an excellent price. Winery Notes: “Great color, deep, dark garnet with a clean and bright red band in the rim. The aromas take a minute to come up, and then they take off into a blend of ripe berry and cherry with just a hint of new oak. We age the wine in both new and seasoned French and American oak. The front of the wine is soft and almost immediately begins evolving into the broad mid-palate. The mid has weight, length, and structure. The acids were great in 2008 and provide an essential rounding effect to the "big fruit" inherent in the wine. The finish is long and filled with ripe, soft tannins. The 2008 has much the same tannin structure of the 2004 which is a personal favorite.”
Wine Spectator 92 points: "Focused, rich and ripe, showing aromas of black cherry and smoky pepper, with sleek but complex flavors of boysenberry, licorice and toasty oak that linger with balanced tannins. Drink now through 2015."
ORIN SWIFT “SALDO” ZINFANDEL 2008 Winery Notes: “The 2008 Saldo is rich, ripe, and full-bodied, with aromas of black cherry and bramble fruit. The tannins are soft but the wine has a huge mid-palate. The soft, lush finish lingers. 2008 was a perfect vintage for Saldo. The hot weather was ideal for creating ripe zinfandel. Drink now and enjoy over the next five years.”
Wine Spectator 91 points: "Well-built, yet rich and stylish, with spicy blackberry aromas and zesty, layered flavors of black cherry and licorice framed by toasty oak. Offers a long, satisfying finish. Drink now through 2015."
ORIN SWIFT CELLARS 2007 “PAPILLON” NAPA VALLEY BORDEAUX BLEND This is Orin Swift Cellar's third release of Papillon. This wine combines Bordeaux varietals from a number of great local vineyards including Lewelling, Taplin, Moorhead, Frediani, Ink Grade, and Morisoli; encompassing Napa Valley appellations Oakville, Rutherford, Saint Helena, and Howell Mountain. The image on the label is a photograph of third generation Napa Valley grape grower and winemaker Vince Toffanelli's hands. The photograph was taken by renowned photographer and dear friend Greg Gorman. Winery Notes: “The color of the wine is deep garnet with an opaque red tinge. It has aromas of opulent black fruits (cassis, blackberries, black cherries) and a touch of well-integrated, sweet oak. The entry of the wine is soft and lush; it sets up the wide yet well defined mid palate. Dark fruit flavors combined with ripe tannins lead into a long and soft finish.”
Robert Parker”s Wine Advocate 90 points: "The 2007 Papillon is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest other Bordeaux varietals. It exhibits supple, sweet tannin in addition to lush black cherry and black currant fruit, cedar, toasty new oak, and spice box. The finish suggests that the wine is still somewhat restrained and closed, but promising. It should evolve for 15 or more years."

TO CAP OFF THE BIG SPANISH AND SOUTH AMERICA WINE SALE WE ARE GOING TO HOLD A SPECIAL SATURDAY WINE TASTING AUGUST 21 FROM 1- 4 PM WITH OUR GOOD FRIEND KRISTI DELOVITCH FROM COUNTRY VINTNER. KRISTI WILL SOME GREAT WINES FROM A FEW OF THE LEADING WINE PRODUCERS IN SPAIN. BODEGAS BORGA Although the history of the city of Borja takes us back to the beginnings of the Paleolithic period, it wasn’t until the 4th century before Christ, in the heart of the Celtiberian period, when thanks to classical and numismatic written sources the name of this village came to light: Bursao. With the passing through Bursao of different civilizations like the Romans, Visigothic Hispania and the Muslims we have inherited architectural remains and above all, the natural inclination of its people towards agriculture and more particularly viniculture. Of equal importance was the implementation of artisanal techniques that today endure as living proof of the cultural richness of the former Bursao today known as Borja. During the I and II centuries, before our time, it used to mint bronze coins, ases and dividers as a symbol of its autonomy. On the obverse we can see a celtiberian rider armed with a lance, riding on the writing of the name of the city in the native alphabet. The emblem adopted by the winery as a sign of identity. Our origins go back to 1958, the year the Cooperative of Borja was founded, which has through years been the forerunner of the mythical brand Borsao. In the year 2001, Borsao went on to obtain its own legal status with the creation of the company Bodegas Borsao S.A., comprising of the cooperatives of Borja, Pozuelo and Tabuenca, thereby joining efforts, resources and means, that combined with the experience and potential of the vineyards of the 3 wine cellars has enabled the development of a new work philosophy that has gainedinternational recognition and prestige.
BORSAO TRES PICOS 2008
Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar 91 points: "Opaque purple.
Campo de Borja region of Spain is known for its powerful and complex Garnacha based wines, the fruit for this limited production 100% old vine Garnacha is carefully hand chosen from among the bodega’s 40-80 year old vines and aged 20 months in new oak. As Jose Miguel San Martin, Bodegas Alto Moncayo’s sole admistrator says, “it is like tasting the authentic essence of Garnacha.” Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 93 points: "Deep ruby with a bright rim. Impressively complex, seductive bouquet of dark berry preserves, tobacco, graphite and smoky Indian spices. Pliant black raspberry and candied cherry flavors are enlivened by zesty minerals and firmed by fine-grained tannins. An exotic floral pastille quality emerges with air and carries into the finish, which is strikingly sweet, lively and persistent. I can't believe that this wine bears the touch of the same guy who is partially responsible for inflicting Australia's R wines on us."
Wine Spectator 92 points: "This plush, dense red shows coffee and spicy oak, with berry and wild plum fruit and accents of licorice and black pepper. The tannins are firm but well-integrated, and this finishes warm and spicy. Modern and alluring. Drink now through 2012. 600 cases made."
BODEGAS MUGA The Muga wine cellars were founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga Martínez who originated from a family with strong ties to the winemaking industry. On the death of the founder in 1969, his children Manuel, Isabel and Isaac Muga Caño took over the reins. Two years later in 1971, they moved their headquarters to their present location in the traditional Station District on the outskirts of Haro. Bodegas Muga has continued to grow as the years have passed but it has never lost the spirit or aptitude of a family-run company. The winery controls every step of the viticultural and vinification process from the vineyards to making their own barrels and fermenting and aging the wine entirely in oak. Muga is one of only six estates in the world that owns its own cooperage and they import the oak directly from the United States and France. Bodegas Muga is one of the oldest, most elegant and traditional Rioja producers. Bodegas Muga vineyards are located on the foot of the Montes Obarenses, within the area called Rioja Alta. The site climate is exceptional due to, on the one hand, the singular geography and orientation of the vines and on the other hand, the surrounding climates –Mediterranian, Atlantic and Continental climates are combined harmoniously thus creating a suitable climatic site for growing grape. The soil in this area is mostly clay and limestone, divided in small terroirs with different physical and chemical qualities between them; thus each terroir has a unique and defined personality. This abundance of climatic influences and different soils define prolonged stages in the vine growth cycle. The growth will be complex and delicate, key to the potential quality of the wines in this area Bodegas Muga owns 620 acres of vineyards but it also has control over 370 acres owned by vine growers in the area. The grape varieties grown are Tempranillo (the essence), Garnacha (Grenache), Mazuelo (Carignan) and Graciano for the red wines; and Viura and Malvasia are used for the white wines.

DI MAJO NORANTE WINERY Di Majo Norante has its own estate vineyards near the ocean and the town of Campomarino. Even though it is situated in Molise, it makes its wines in a more Campanian style, and so they have Southern Italy at their heart. Di Majo Norante has been bottling wines since 1968 and makes several reds and whites, including some interesting sounding blends. The Di Majo Norante winery is located to the north of the Gargano in Molise on the estate of the Marquis Norante of Santa Cristina. This estate has been dedicated to the cultivation of vines since the 1800's. In the 1960's a modern cantina was constructed and vines were replanted. Optimal exposure, constant breezes during the summer, excellent soil composition and a slope toward the Sciabolone and Madonna Grande valleys, blend together to create a particularly favorable environment for the production of wine. Alessio Di Majo has hired renowned enologist, Riccardo Cotarella, as a consultant in order to ensure consistent, high quality production for all their wines. The Di Majo family is dedicated to producing quality wine at an outstanding value and practicing environmentally sound agriculture.
DI MAJO NORANTE TERRA DEGLI OSCI SANGIOVESE 2008
Winery Notes: “Dry and mellow wine, with a bright red colour, fresh and fruity bouquet with a hint of violet and red berries and a trace of leather. Ideal with hors d’oeuvres, starters, game, meats and cheeses.”
FALESCO WINERY The Falesco Winery, owned by the brothers Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, two of Italy's most acclaimed winemakers have been deeply rooted in between the Lazio and Umbria regions, established in Montefi ascone (Lazio, Viterbo province) in 1979. Retrieving historical vines was considered a paramount of importance among the brothers initial goals. As a matter of fact this territory had been famous for centuries for its outstanding wines, which were the privilege of the Roman aristocracy and the Popes, yet, in recent years, it had almost sunk into oblivion. Therefore it took several years of painstaking research and selections before old clones, which had almost been considered extinct, could be isolated along with extremely delicate microvarieties with their matchless aroma and organoleptic value that were lost with the planting of specialized vineyards in the 1960s. Beside retrieving vines, they have tried to spot areas with a marked viticultural vocation in which the exposure and the peculiar composition of the soils. Their philosophy is to strike a balance between the uniqueness of native Italian varieties and the versatility of more "international" grapes which result in very hi gh quality wines.
FALESCO VITIANO ROSSO CABERNET SAUVIGNON/ SANGIOVESE/ MERLOT 2008 Winery Notes: “This is a blockbuster young red wine with explosive, luscious aromas. The Wine Advocate 89 points: "The 2008 Vitiano Rosso (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese) is a racy, sleek wine that impresses with its layers of perfumed red cherries and sweet toasted oak. FALESCO VITIANO BIANCO 2009
TIRED OF FINDING A GOOD PINOT GRIGIO BUT PAYING $20 + FOR IT! WELL WE HAVE ONE FOR YOU FOR ALMOST THE HALF THE PRICE. SAN PIETRO WINERY The Consorzio Viticoltori Alto Adige was established in 1984 and includes six Alto Adige producers. Vinification up to finished wine for bottling takes place in the various estates’ cellars in order not to alter the single local specialties, while bottling of all wines is carried out at the Appiano headquarters. By grouping together highly specialized and highly qualified producers, Viticoltori has initiated the most fruitful quality oriented oenological innovation of the region, for it finally allows the very finest crus of Alto Adige to be known in their integrity. The process is simple and effective. The oenologist of the co-operative works closely with the oenologists of the various wineries and choses only the best lots of wine to be bottled (at the co-operative winery of St. Michael, Eppan) thus ensuring the highest quality possible. And here it must be added that the Trentino Alto Adige boasts the finest white wine oenologists in Italy. All aspects concerning viticulture are supervised by a provincial committee that collaborates with the agronomists of the seven wineries. This wine is fuller in colour than other wines of the Alto Adige, they are full but soft to the palate with a good acidic balance with a slight note of ripe fruit. The aroma is of tropical fruit and honey. Truly lovely wine!

Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar 88 points: "Pale yellow. High-pitched, spicy aromas of lime zest, grapefruit and talc, with a suave floral overtone. Juicy, sharply focused citrus and mineral flavors expand and gain depth in the middle palate, picking up a juicy pear quality. The talc note returns on the finish, which is refreshingly nervy and dry. "

ALJIBES SPAIN 2004
The Wine Advocate 90 points: "The 2003 Aljibes, which spent 9 months in new French and American oak, is composed of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. It could easily pass as a Bordeaux impersonator. Dark ruby-colored, it offers up an excellent bouquet of pain grille, vanilla bean, and spicy black currants. On the palate it presents a supple-textured personality with generous quantities of black fruit flavors, excellent balance, ripe tannins, and a long, pure finish. This outstanding value should continue to evolve for 4-6 years and drink well through 2020." BODEGAS JUAN GIL JUMILLA SPAIN 2008
Winery Notes: ”We selected the Monastrell grapes for this wine from 40-year old parcels in our estate vineyards. Here shallow, chalky soils on a bed of limestone and rock, combined with an arid climate, produce the low yields (1,8 ton per acre) required for wine of this complexity. After harvesting, the deep purple grapes are whole-cluster macerated “sur lie” for 25 days, and then pressed and aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. It has a very dark cherry colour with purple tones. In the nose it has powerful aromas of red berries, toasted and smoked notes from their aging in the oak barriques. It has good structure with ripe and sweet tannins. In the mouth it is very long, and with a perfect balance between fruit, alcohol and the oak tones, which make it very pleasant and easy to drink.”

ATECCA OLD VINE CALATAYUD SPAIN 2008
The Wine Advocate 88 points: "The 2008 Atteca was sourced from even older vines, 80-120 years of age in this case. Deep crimson-colored, it offers up an enticing perfume of spice box, violets, and black cherry. Supple-textured with excellent depth and concentration and plenty of savory fruit, it lacks only complexity but, at this price, who’s complaining?"

BODEGA NORTON RESERVA MALBEC ARGENTINA 2007
Wine Spectator 90 points: "Very ripe and primal still, delivering a large core of velvety textured raspberry, fig and boysenberry fruit that is liberally laced with dark toast, pastis and roasted vanilla. Should settle in nicely with modest cellaring, as the structure is dense, but polished and integrated. Drink now through 2011. 61,000 cases imported."
SHAYA VERDEJO SPAIN 2009
The Wine Advocate 91 points: "The Verdejo grapes for the 2009 Shaya are sourced from both estate vineyards and local growers with vine age ranging from 75-112 years. The wine was barrel-fermented and aged on its lees. Medium straw-colored, if offers up an alluring aroma of baking spices, spring flowers, and peach. On the palate it has a creamy texture, vibrant acidity, and intense flavors leading to a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. It is a great value in dry, aromatic white wine that over-delivers in a big way."
CATENA CHARDONNAY ARGENTINA 2008
The Wine Advocate 91 points: "The 2008 Chardonnay was fermented with native yeasts and aged for 9 months sur lies in 35% new French oak. It is light gold-colored with an alluring nose of mineral, baking spices, apple, pear, and tropical scents. This leads to a creamy textured, vibrant, complex, medium-bodied Chardonnay with outstanding balance and length. It will drink well for another 4 years. "
PUNTO FINAL RESERVA MALBEC ARGENTINA 2006 The Wine Advocate 92 points: "The 2006 Punto Final Reserva contains 99% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc aged for 10 months in French oak. It, too, was sourced from vineyards over 50 years of age but with lower yields. Opaque purple-colored, it offers up a fragrant bouquet of cedar, scorched earth, lavender, and black cherry. Layered, dense, and concentrated, it has tons of savory black fruit, spice notes, and excellent balance. This lengthy effort can be enjoyed now but will evolve in the bottle for 2-3 years.”
Wine Spectator 91 points: "A dark, tarry style, with crushed plum, fig and hoisin sauce flavors backed by an invigorating licorice snap note on the ripe, muscular finish. Powerful but driven, this brings you back for more. Drink now through 2012."

Bordeaux-like in style, with ripe berry and plum flavors along with a dose of herbs. Confident, controlled wine that doesn't overdo it. One of the best, if not the best, Primus we've tried. Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot and Carmenere."
DECERO CABERNET ARGENTINA 2006 Wine Spectator 90 points: "Quite ripe, with a beam of raspberry and boysenberry fruit, but it stays focused, with alluring spice, currant, toast and black tea notes stretching out the juicy finish. Drinkn now through 2010."
The Wine Advocate 90 points: "The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Remolinos Vineyard is deep crimson-colored with an alluring bouquet of cedar, cinnamon, allspice, cassis, and black currant. Supple and elegant on the palate, it has excellent depth, grip, and a lingering finish. It too will provide pleasure over the next six years. Quietly, Petit Verdot has become a new darling of serious wine growers and aficionados because in regions where it ripens most of the time, it can be something quite spectacular. Accessible black cherry flavors with a compote-like sweetness. Dry, spicy finish imbued with fine-grain tannins and a suggestion of black pepper." Wine Spectator 91 points: "Richly layered, with ambitiously styled fig, mocha, espresso and bittersweet cocoa, backed by a lush beam of boysenberry fruit. Fleshy and toasty through the finish, with the dark fruit lingering well in the background. Drink now through 2010. 35,000 cases made.”
The Wine Advocate 91 points: "The 2006 Alpha Syrah Apalta Vineyard is purple colored with an enticing nose of game, espresso, earth, and blueberry. This leads to an elegantly-styled Syrah with spicy blue and black fruit flavors, good depth, and a fruit-filled finish. Enjoy it over the next 4-6 years.”
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 90 points: "Fading medium-red color. Cherry-vanilla, tobacco and dried raspberry on the nose, with subtle baking spices, cedar and herbs adding complexity. Suave red fruit flavors are sweetened by vanillin oak spices and gently propped up by silky tannins. An understated wine that's sure to be dismissed by those who find ostentation in wine a virtue, but this will work wonderfully with grilled or braised meats, or not-so-strong cheeses. And the length of this Rioja is pretty sneaky."
SUSANA BALBO MALBEC ARGENTINA 2007
CASA LAPOSTOLLE CUVEE ALEXANDRE MERLOT CHILE 2006 Wine Spectator 90 points: "Muscular, with broad cocoa and plum sauce notes leading the way for an ample core of currant confiture and licorice. The rock-solid finish will need some cellaring to stretch out. 20,337 cases made."
Wine Enthusiast 90 points:"Cuvée Alexandre is one of Chile’s best Merlots, and consistency is its main virtue. Every year it shows fine ripeness, weight and enough complexity to draw attention. In 2006 the wine offers graphite, spice and blackberry aromas backed by lively black currant, blackberry and bitter chocolate flavors. A yummy wine with a touch of butter and vanilla on the finish.”

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 92 points: “Opaque ruby. Fresh red berries and cherry on the nose, with sexy Asian spices and minerals adding energy. Seamless raspberry and candied cherry flavors stain the palate but are almost weightless, with fine-grained tannins adding shape. An understated, precise wine that finishes with excellent clarity and persistence.”
MARQUES DE CACERES GRAN RESERVA RIOJA SPAIN 2001
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 90 points: “Dark red. Smoky cherry, candied plum, cedar, tobacco and dried flowers on the nose, plus a subtle undertone of vanilla. Medium-bodied red fruit flavors are sweetened by vanilla and cola, with dusty tannins adding grip. Gains flesh on the finish and the tannins build, too, leaving a gently gripping cherry skin quality behind. This is quite persistent.”

ALTO MONCAYO CAMPO DE BORJA SPAIN 2007
The Wine Advocate 94 points: "The same can be said for the 2007 Alto Moncayo, also 100% Garnacha. It offers up a similar aromatic and flavor profile, just at a slightly higher octane level. This opulent effort is all about pleasure; give it 3-4 years of additional cellaring if you’d like it a bit more civilized. Old vine Garnacha made under the supervision of renowned vigneron Chris Ringland is the story at Bodegas Alto Moncayo in the little known DO of Campo de Borja."
MAURO CASTILLA Y LEON SPAIN 2005
EMILIO MORO MALLEOLUS DUERO SPAIN 2000
ELIX PRIORAT SPAIN 2005
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 90 points: “Deep red. Sexy, oak-spiced red and dark berry aromas are complemented by fresh rose, cinnamon and vanilla. Cherry-vanilla and blackberry preserve flavors show impressive depth and clarity, with fine-grained tannins adding support. Finishes with a persistent flavor of dark berry jam.” |

TODAY SATURDAY AUGUST 14 FROM 1-5 PM. WE WILL HAVE OUR GOOD FRIEND ROBERT PERTI WITH US FROM MONSIEUR TOUTON AND WE WILL BE HOLDING A WONDERFUL WHITE BORDEAUX TASTING. SO STOP ON BY AS THIS WILL BE A TASTING YOU WILL NOT WANT TO MISS. BORDEAUX Bordeaux is renowned throughout the world for its red wines—it also make some spectacularly good dry white wines that tend to get overlooked and are normally priced at well below what they should be. In recent years, its dry white wines have been increasingly gaining praise from the critics. The wines can be refreshing dominated by Sauvignon Blanc and/or Semillon, or full-bodied, barrel-aged, and ageworthy single varietals or blend of two or more grape varieties. Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon make up most dry white Bordeaux. Muscadelle and Sauvignon Gris are two less important varieties that are less likely seen, but may be added to the blend. Sauvignon Blanc: This grape - often better known from such wine regions as Sancerre in France's Loire Valley and Marlborough in New Zealand - is also planted in Bordeaux. It is a very versatile grape that can produce light, racy, more structured and complex oak-aged versions. Sauvignon Blanc is often criticized as being simple and unable to age, however, some excellent ageworthy examples are crafted. Semillon: This is the most planted white grape in the Bordeaux region. Some rich, full-bodied dry wines with tropical fruit and honey aromas are also made with Semillon. Semillon is often blended with the leaner, more acidic Sauvignon Blanc to balance its plumpness. Muscadelle: Similar to the Muscat grape, although not directly related, Muscadelle has a perfumed aroma that has many admirers. Very rarely is this grape made into a single varietal wine and almost never makes up more than 15% of any vineyard. Muscadelle is a difficult grape to grow so many growers won't bother with it. It is sometimes seen as a minor component in dry and sweet white blends. Sauvignon Gris: This offshoot of the Sauvignon Blanc grape has developed a following in the Graves region of Bordeaux. Sauvignon Gris has a pinkish-coloured skin and instead of the citrus and grassy aromas and flavours of Sauvignon Blanc, it has a rounder, more floral character Principal Dry White Bordeaux Appellations Bordeaux AOP: Many of the dry white wines of Bordeaux are classified simply as Bordeaux AOC (changed recently to AOP). In fact, 60% of all dry white wine produced in Bordeaux uses this appellation. Many styles of dry whites are classified with this appellation, from fresh, crisp, and fruity wines for early consumption to more full-bodied, barrel-aged examples. Entre-Deux-Mers AOP: After Bordeaux AOP, this is the largest dry white wine appellation in Bordeaux. Wines sold as Entre-Deux-Mers must be dry whites and are mainly made with Sauvignon Blanc together with Semillon and Muscadelle. Most of these wines are light and easy-drinking and should be consumed as young as possible Graves AOP: Graves is Bordeaux's only region that is famous for both its red and white wines. It is in this region that more serious, barrel-aged, sometimes barrel fermented dry whites can be found. Most are a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Pessac-Leognan AOP: The best white Bordeaux comes from the inner Graves appellation—Pessac-Léognan. This appellation is also for both red and white wines and was established in 1987 for what is considered to be the best vineyards of the larger Graves region. It is still often referred to as Graves. The white wines from this region can be included among the most complex white wines in the world. Sauvignon Blanc must make up at least 25% of the blend usually with Semillon. These wines will, for the most part, be barrel-fermented and barrel-aged, and some of the best can be successfully cellared for decades.

When Mike O’Connell and his family started Grayson Cellars they asked the winemaker to search throughout California's finest growing regions for the best grapes. Grayson Cellars specializes in sourcing declassified lots of wine from highly respected wineries, putting together attractive blends. Then they made several small lots of handcrafted wines and gave each a lot number. They continue that tradition today with lot numbers for each wine. The wines are carefully crafted by Larry Levin, who is among the most experienced winemakers in the Napa Valley. After completing his Enology degree at UC Davis, Larry spent seventeen years at Dry Creek Vineyard where over 18 vintages he produced more than 15 varietal wines. He has since covered the globe by making wine in New Zealand, Chile, and Australia across all price points and styles. For the previous nine years Larry was head of winemaking at Icon Estates where he oversaw the Franciscan, Mt. Veeder, Robert Mondavi, Estancia, Ravenswood, Quintessa and Ruffino brands. Larry also consults for wineries in the Stag’s Leap and Oakville districts in Napa and Sonoma. Robert Parker of the Wine Advocate recently wrote, “It’s about time Grayson Cellars receives recognition for the extraordinary bargains it is creating. There is a lot of high quality fruit available for buying and turning into wine given the hard economic hit vineyards of California have absorbed, and Grayson Cellars appears to be exploiting that to their advantage as well as to that of consumers. Winemaker Larry Levin is doing some remarkable work here, turning out wines that defy belief given their price points. Kudos to him and the owner of Grayson Cellars.” Grayson Cellars is a rarity in California today, a family-owned winery that produces small lots of moderately priced wines.

YES THIS IS A CHARDONNAY FROM CHARDONNAY. INTERESTING, RIGHT? THIS WINE IS FROM THE GREAT LOUIS LATOUR. This exciting new addition to the Louis Latour portfolio promises to become a classic. It is essentially a "Super Mâcon", with the fruit coming exclusively from the famous village of Chardonnay in the Mâconnais region. Chardonnay vines and Chardonnay's soil conspire to create the most harmonious of whites: the Chardonnay from Chardonnay. Chardonnay, the first village to have planted Chardonnay, continues to this day to produce world-class white Burgundy worth of its name. This unique offering embodies a sense of origin and place. MAISON LOUIS LATOUR
Regarded as one of the traditional négociant-éléveurs, Maison Louis Latour is the producer of some of the finest Burgundian wines but has also pioneered the production of fine wines from outside of the confines of Burgundy. The Latour family themselves have been viticulteurs since the 17th century, slowly building up a unique Domaine of 50 hectares (125 acres). This Domaine has the largest Grand Cru property in the Cote d'Or with a total of 28,63 hectares (71,58 acres) . The vineyards extend from Chambertin in the north to Chevalier-Montrachet in the south and are solely planted with the two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Latour family founded the 'Maison de négoce', an important shipping company, in 1797 and is still based at 18 Rue des Tonneliers in Beaune. The company is unique in Burgundy in that it is still to this day family owned and family run, having passed down from father to son for over ten generations.

This delicious, medium to full-bodied 2007 should drink well for 2-4 years."

Soon, Edoardo rose through the ranks to winemaker. Yet, he yearned for home. The Colony's manager repeatedly encouraged him to stay and finally, it was his niece and the opportunity to purchase land that convinced Edoardo to remain. That young girl, Angela Vasconi and Edoardo were married in 1893. In 1895, they purchased a modest home in northern Alexander Valley, less for the home than the surrounding 56 acres Edoardo recognized as ideal vineyard land. They planted the "Home Ranch" that year to what has become the family's lifeline - Zinfandel. From the time of Angela's death until the mid 1970s, the Seghesio Family flourished in the bulk wine business, producing most of the red wine made in Sonoma County. At their largest, 1,700,000 gallons were produced between the original winery in Chianti and the Healdsburg winery. Yet, as the industry evolved, so did the Seghesio family when in 1983, the first wines were bottled under the Seghesio label at the hands of Ted Seghesio, a fourth generation family winemaker. Ted was the not only the winemaker but sold and delivered wine. In 1986, his cousin Peter Seghesio joined the business and began to set up a distribution network nationwide. By 1993, the Seghesio brand had grown to 130,000 cases of not only the family's zinfandel and Italian varietals, but also Chardonnay, Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc and both red and white table wine. It was in that year that the younger generation was given control of the winery. Fortunately, they too shared a passion for the land and a desire to produce wines they were passionate about. They turned their focus to the vineyards and eliminated all but the wines we grow reducing production to 30,000 cases. Today, they are proud to passionately produce almost exclusively estate wines, some from those same vineyards Edoardo and Angela first planted in the late 1800s.
SEGHESIO ARNEIS 2009
Tannins and flavors developed slowly without the usual heat spikes, but a very warm September punctuated the vintage by bringing the fruit to full ripeness. Complex, lingering flavors of ripe pears, honeydew melons and green apples. Crisp acidity and bright varietal fruit aromas.”
Pinot Grigio is part of that plan to grow intriguing varieties in the best and most appropriate sites. Noted for its unusual grayish/pink clusters and shared lineage with Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio is well suited to the cooler climate of the Russian River Valley. Richness and textural complexity while maintaining pure, bright varietal essences.Aromas and flavors of ripe apples and quince. Lively citrus character followed by lingering notes of apple and tropical fruit. Try this wine with grilled pork chops with lemon zest, rosemary and black pepper.”
SEGHESIO ZINFANDEL SONOMA 2008
Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 89 points: "The 2008 Zinfandel Sonoma offers up copious amounts of blue, red, and black fruits as well as excellent purity, medium to full body, a supple texture, and enough acidity to provide vibrancy. It is a pure, elegant, substantial Zinfandel to drink over the next 3-4 years."
SEGHESIO BARBERA 2008
Our Barbera clones were found in that century-old vineyard. Subsequent Barbera plantings on the Home Ranch benefit from northern Alexander Valley’s warm, dry days where the grape’s classic acidity creates a wine with vibrant aromas and a velvety texture. Barbera's dark ruby/purple color is followed by loads of briery, berry fruit, earth, herbs, pepper, and spice. Gutsy and zesty, it is a delicious, medium-bodied red with abundant personality. Enjoy it over the next 3-4 years."

WE WILL BE TASTING THESE WINES ALL DAY TODAY! SO STOP ON BY AND TRY THESE SUPERIOR SMALL PRODUCTION ESTATE GROWN WINES. SUMMERS ESTATE WINES
Friendly, small family winery. Less than 10,000 case production of handcrafted, estate wines. Jim Summers purchased a 28-acre vineyard in Knights Valley in 1987. At that time it was mostly Merlot grapes with some Muscat Canelli. The first production of Summers Ranch Merlot was the 1992 vintage, and they increased the yield to reach a maximum of 2000 cases.
SUMMERS CHARBONO NAPA VALLEY 2007
Winery Notes: "This unique varietal is only grown on eighty acres in all of California, fourteen of which are in Summers’ Villa Andriana Vineyard.
It’s always a rustic wine, but it ages forever, and can develop sweet complexities. In its youth, it’s fruity, soft and tannic, with ripe blackberry and chocolate flavors.”
Wine Enthusiast 88 points: “Very ripe, showing upfront grilled blackberry and black currant flavors with hints of violets and licorice, and a firm application of smoky oak. Shows a pleasingly dry, classic structure. Best now, and a good buy for this price in upscale Napa Cab.”
Wine Advocate 88 points: “The serious 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Andriana’s Cuvee is a 6,500-case, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 20 months in French oak. It possesses a dark ruby/purple color as well as good structure and density, plenty of loamy soil, black currant, herb, and spice characteristics, and 5-6 years of drinkability.”

Chateau Michel De Montaigne is owned by Frank Mahler-Besse, the same owners of many Chateaux in Bordeaux including the famous Chateau Palmer in Margaux. The property is located in Bergerac which is in south-west France and is well known for its wines. Best of all the red wines which are identical to the ones produced in the Right Bank of Bordeaux in the Medoc / Saint-Emilion regions. This historic property was rebuilt by Frank’s great-great grandmother in 1964. The property lies less than six miles from the village of St. Emilion. The terrior is identical to St. Emilion so the vineyard holds 60 % Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc on clay and marl soils and the vines average 20 years of age. Since the vineyard is located in Bergerac you will get the same great Bordeaux wine for 3-4 times less the price! CHATEAU MICHEL DE MONTAIGNE BERGERAC 2006
Tasting Notes: “This wine has a strong crushed floral nose. Pleasant aromas of plum, cherry and fig give way to a smooth and easy drinking wine. Taste hints of cherries, strawberries, blackcurrant, and dark chocolate. It covers the tongue with balanced but tamed tannins, acidity and has a nice aged oak barrel flavor with a really nice smooth finish. This will mature of the next couple years this wine gets even better the next day.”

RAVENSWOOD VINTNERS BLEND 2007
AVALON 2007
Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 88 points: "As one might expect, the 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa (which is blended with Syrah and Merlot) is a slightly deeper wine displaying a more saturated ruby/purple color in addition to sweet creme de cassis, smoked herb, loamy soil, cedar, and spice characteristics. It should drink well for 3-4 years. I enjoyed Avalon’s 2006 efforts, and in 2007 (a brilliant vintage throughout California for nearly every varietal) they have again turned in strong performances.”

PEDRONCELLI BLOCK 007 2007
Wine Enthusiast 92 points: "An interesting Cabernet that shows how this venerable winery is taking the variety seriously. Dry and tannic, it shows impressively deep flavors of blackberries and black currants, with the spiciness of Dry Creek Valley reds. Fine now, but should have a nice glidepath of ageability over the next 6–8 years.”

NEWTON 2007
Wine Enthusiast 94 points: "Refined and beautiful. Made with a splash of Cabernet Franc that gives it a cherry pie filling richness, it’s dry and full-bodied, with thick but sweetly ripe tannins framing a Sauvignonesque core of cassis."
FRANCISCAN 2006
OWEN ROE SHARECROPPER’S COLUMBIA VALLEY 2007
International Wine Review 90 points: "The Sharecropper's Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit sourced mainly from vineyards in the Yamhill-Carlton District and Eola–Amity Hills. Dark ruby with an intriguing bouquet of smoked meat and minerals. Soft on the palate with a big flavor profile of black cherry, cola, earth, smoked meats, and charred oak. Finishes with a soft lingering purity of fruit."

HONIG 2006
Blackberry, cherry and plum fruit aromas and flavors are accented by vanilla, allspice and cocoa. The richly textured mid-palate is balanced by medium tannins and a lengthy finish.Honig Cabernet Sauvignon is deep ruby red in color with complex aromas of ripe black cherry, spicy plum, vanilla bean, and toasty oak. Full-bodied with moderate acidity and rich, supple tannins, the wine offers lush texture and flavors of blackberries, cherries, cocoa and spice. It was aged for 20 months in American oak barrels, 30% new oak. The wine is complex, structured, and beautifully balanced, with soft tannins to cellar 8-10 years. It has a lingering, velvety finish.”
STUHLMULLER VINEYARD ALEXANDER VALLEY 2007
Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 89 points: "The medium to full-bodied 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a dense ruby/purple hue as well as notes of licorice, black currants, spice box, and earth. With airing, it also displays notions of tobacco leaf and cedar. Consume this beauty over the next decade."
TURNBULL NAPA VALLEY ESTATE GROWN 2006
Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar 92 points: "Over the last several vintages, Turnbull has impressed with its very well-made and comparatively affordable Cabernets. It hits the very same marks once again in 2006, and wins applause for its deep fruit, fine focus and classic structure. Its ample oak is always subordinate to elements of cassis and ripe cherries, and its integral tannins provide solid varietal spice without being too tough or abrasive. It overall sense of proportion and balance are just what we look for in ageworthy wines, and what is good here will get only better over the next five to ten years.”
HESS COLLECTION ESTATE GROWN MOUNT VEEDER NAPA VALLEY 2004
Wine Enthusiast 92 points: "Production was 10,000 cases, amazing when you consider how good this mountain wine is. Immediately drinkable for the soft purity of the tannins and complex cassis, chocolate and oak flavors, it has the sturdy structure to develop for some years, but is best now for its elegant purity. Hess is on a real Cabernet roll, and is one of Napa’s overlooked stars.”
HALL NAPA VALLEY 2005
PETER FRANUS 2006
FAUST 2006
ROCKLEDGE “THE ROCKS” ST HELENA 2005 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 92 points: “This beautiful, full-bodied wine… exhibits a dark ruby/purple color and sweet, chocolaty, cassis flavors intermixed with cedar wood and roasted herbs. This ink-colored wine is dense, rich, yet beautifully balanced with ripe tannin.”
Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar 92 points: “…Juicy, fruit-driven and concentrated, with an impressively layered texture to the lush, sweet fruit flavors. Finishes with firm but thoroughly ripe tannins… Just 945 cases made. This is a big, concentrated mountain wine that you’ll want to decant for an hour. It will age beautifully for 10 to 20 years if desired.”
VINIFERA VINEYARDS 2006
Wine Enthusiast 95 points: Here's a young, vital, impressive 100% Cabernet. It's dry, full-bodied and rich in classic flavors of blackberries, black currants, graphite and minerals, wrapped into silky tannins. Superb oak integration lends notes of vanilla and sandalwood. Just gorgeous in the mouth, filled with class and elegance. Now-2014, at least. Editors' choice.”
S.P. DRUMMER NAPA VALLEY 2004
CHATEAU MONTELENA NAPA VALLEY 2006
LEWELLING NAPA VALLEY 2003
LADERA HOWELL MOUNTAIN 2006
Wine Spectator 92 points: "A tour de force Cabernet. Dense, plush, rich and concentrated, wall-to-wall flavors, with layers of black cherry, black currant, black licorice, mineral and graphite. Full-bodied and tightly wound with firm tannins, yet finishes with a mix of juicy berry and mineral flavors. Drink now through 2020. 3,000 cases made."
Robert Parker The Wine Advocate 91 points: "The star of this duo is the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain, which offers up juicy notes of crushed rocks, flowers, dark berries, black currants, and earth. This elegant, medium to full-bodied Cabernet possesses both finesse and substance. Deep, pure, and rich with moderate tannins, it will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring, and should drink well over the following 15 years.”
JOSEPH PHELPS NAPA VALLEY 2006
Wine Enthusiast 92 points: "Phelps’ basic Cabernet bottling is dry and elegant and classically balanced. It displays rich flavors of blackberries, black currants and cedar, with notes of violets and herbs. Fancy and impressive now, but not a longterm ager. Through 2012."
ROBERT CRAIG AFFINITY 2007
ANDERSON'S CONN VALLEY ESTATE RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2006
ANDERSON’S CONN VALLEY VINEYARDS RESERVE 2006
Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 94 points: "The unfined, unfiltered 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve spends two years in French oak and another year in the bottle before being released. This cuvee has a long track record of aging (the 1990 and 1991 are still going strong). The dense ruby/purple-tinged 2006 offers notes of new saddle leather, black currants, autumnal vegetation/forest floor, cassis, and cherries, superb richness, and a full-bodied, powerful finish. Cellar it for 5-6 years, and drink it over the following 25 years.”
CLIFF LEDE STAGS LEAP DISTRICT 2007
Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 93 points: "The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap (75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc) is everything that one expects in a wine from this sector that is known for elegance, harmony, and Margaux-like finesse. A perfectly balanced Cabernet, it exhibits a dense purple color along with a big, sweet nose of spring flowers, black and red currants as well as graphite. It is deep, rich, young, and promising with plenty of tannin, but an unmistakable, profound minerality. Although accessible, 2-3 years of bottle age will be beneficial, and the wine should age for two decades."
CRU VINEYARD 29 2006
Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 92 points: "The gorgeous 2006 Cru Proprietary Red Wine is a 2,700-case blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Revealing sweet tannin along with a beautiful bouquet of berry fruit, tobacco leaf, cedar, earth, and burning embers, this medium to full-bodied effort possesses supple tannins as well as a lush, heady finish. It should drink beautifully for 10-12 years. Restaurants should offer this as a high priority Cabernet Sauvignon given its pricing. Proprietor Chuck McMinn and his winemaker, Philippe Melka, continue to fashion one of Napa’s finest negociant blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, offering it at a reasonable price for a high end Napa Cabernet."
DUCKHORN CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2006
The Wine Spectator 89-91 points: "Supple, harmonious, graceful and polished. Shows a pretty flash of toasty oak, with ripe currant and floral berry and pomegranate fruit that maintains its generous fruity profile on the long finish. The tannins are fine- grained. This is a big, structured wine that will benefit from some age, or at least some air."
BURLY NAPA VALLEY 2005
CADE NAPA by PLUMPJACK 2007
STAG’S LEAP WINE CELLARS FAY VINEYARD 2006
CADE PLUMPJACK 2007
HOURGLASS BLUELINE NAPA VALLEY 2006
Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 91 points: "More tannic and closed was the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Blue Line. This wine has outstanding ripeness, as most wines do in this vintage, but the tannins are elevated, the wine muscular, firm, and needing some time in bottle. This wine needs 2-3 years of bottle age and should last for 15 or more years. Made by Bob Foley, who also makes Pride, Robert Foley and School House wines, among others, this inaugural release of the winery's Blueline Estate label will be difficult to keep your hands off.” TO ORDER CALL 202 333 6666: For SAME DAY SERVICE visit us in person at 2436 Wisconsin Ave NW, Wash DC . . . This area was divided between the spiritual power of the abbots of the Sauve-Majeur (or "general forest", cleared by the Benedictines from the ninth century) and the temporal power of Sudan Pressac himself vassal kings of England. Pressac said the Lord of this high "Castelnau" from the fourteenth century to 200 meters from the Federal mound. This castle is built on the traditional plan of the fortified houses of the region. A main building of the fifteenth century is flanked by two large round. It overlooks an inner courtyard square built around the well, enclosed by walls and closed by two small towers. We are faced with a model of its kind, in its massive and rustic. Its elegance lies in its simplicity outside, which 'not ruled out the refinement of a door and windows overlooking the Renaissance interior. The property, grouped around the castle, is balanced by others in this country of mixed between vines, and wood grain. This balance is the image of its wines. The dry whites of Entre-Deux-Mers, vinified and aged in barrels, have a complex flavor and smooth with age. The family has long been the fate Gauffreteau directed this domain. For eight generations, it is now in the same family and is slowly its original aspect, which has been lost by the Revolution. The entire property, surrounded by woods and corn fields, consists of 30 hectares of vineyards. The white wines of the appellation Entre-Deux-Mers and the red "Bordeaux Supérieur" are very much appreciated by critics and often mentioned in the guides. They have already received numerous awards. The property, grouped around the castle, is balanced by others in this country of mixed between vines, and wood grain. This balance is the image of its wines. Castelneau is fortunate to have very old vines Semillon planted in the late 19th century. The dry whites of Entre-Deux-Mers, vinified and aged in barrels, have a complex flavor and smooth with age.

“Flechas de Los Andes’ 2007 Gran Malbec spent 14 months in 33% new French oak, 33% second fill French oak, and 34% in stainless steel.
ROTHSCHILD FLECHAS DE LOS ANDES GRAN CORTE MALBEC 2006
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 94 points: “Flechas de Los Andes’ 2006 Gran Corte spent 17 months in new French oak. It is opaque purple-colored with legs that ooze down the glass. The aromatics are brooding but expressive with notes of pain grille, pencil lead, spice box, lavender, black cherry, and plum. Opulent, with glossy fruit, this dense, rich effort conceals significant underlying structure. This intense, powerful, lengthy wine demands a minimum of 5-7 years of cellaring and will be at its best from 2015 to 2030.”

d'ARENBERG WINERY
In 1943 Frank's son Francis d'Arenberg, universally known as 'd'Arry' returned from school, age 16, to help his ill father run the business, eventually assuming full management of d'Arenberg in 1957. d'Arry bottled the first of the famous diagonal red stripe labeled wines the following year. By the 1970’s d’Arenberg wines had become very fashionable, having gained a significant national and international profile in less than 20 years. Enter the fourth generation, d'Arry's son Chester d'Arenberg Osborn. After graduating from Roseworthy College and touring other Australia and European wine regions Chester took over the reigns as Chief Winemaker in 1984 and immediately set about rejuvenating the 70 year old Cellars and l9th Century Vineyards. Investing in new oak refrigeration and lots of small stainless steel tanks resulted in immediate white dividends with his Dry Dam Riesling, Dryland Sauvignon Blanc, Olive Grove Chardonnay and Botrytis affected Noble Riesling all winning gold medals and trophies at wine shows. The winemaking processes of the past have been maintained, capturing the unique small-batch character of the wines and the true flavour of the McLaren Vale region. All grapes, red and white, are basket-pressed. The reds are still traditionally fermented with the grape skins (caps) submerged in open wax-lined concrete fermenters utilising the age-old technique of foot-treading. In 1990 Chester was crowned McLaren Vale Bushing King for producing the best table wine in the district judged at the McLaren Vale Wine Show. d'Arenberg's property was recently renovated incorporating cellar door tastings and a restaurant, appropriately named 'd'Arry's Verandah' overlooking McLaren Vale and the Willunga escarpment falling into the Gulf of St Vincent.
Winery Notes: “The name 'Stump Jump' relates to the significant South Australian invention – the Stump Jump plough. This plough became a popular piece of machinery for ploughing fields because of its ability to ride over stumps and gnarled "mallee" Eucalypt roots and snags, saving valuable time and resources by not stopping the draught horse. The nose is full of ripe and juicy red fruits and fresh plums mixed with dark cherry and exotic spices. The palate is rich, round and juicy with ripe raspberry and blackcurrant in abundance and a bit of plum stone, rhubarb, chocolate and licorice adding to the mix.The spicy tannins are fine and finish off this easy drinking fruity wine nicely.”
Wine Spectator 90 points: "Ripe and open-textured, this is impressive for the way it packs in the cherry, blackberry and raspberry flavors and doesn’t take the foot off the gas pedal until the mineral-inflected finish has played through. Drink now through 2018."
d’ARENBERG THE STUMP JUMP RED 2008
Winery Notes: “The 2008 Stump Jump Red has a nose of ripe and juicy red fruits and fresh plums mixed with dark cherry, rhubarb and cardamon. The palate is soft and generous, with juicy fresh red berries, mulberry and a hint of pomegranate. Underlying is a more subtle layer of plum stone, star anise and cinnamon which adds complexity and interest, with soft powdery tannins to finish.” We also highly recommend you try this white wine from d’Arenberg:
D’ARENBERG THE HERMIT CRAB 2008 Winery Notes: “Expressive aromatics of lime and lemon with peaches, pears and apricot stone jumping out of the glass and spicy, floral notes in the background. Great balance on the palate, the luscious stone fruit and ginger spices harmonized by savory nuty characters from the Marsanne. Wonderful combination of freshness, complexity and balance between fruit flavor, acid and alcohol.” Stephen Tanzer’s Internation Wine Cellar 89 points: "Light, bright gold. Pungent aromas of tangerine, poached pear and floral honey over a subtle underpinning of minerals. Supple, gently sweet orchard fruit and melon flavors are firmed by a citrus zest quality and pick up an exotic floral note on the back end. This juicy, fruit-driven wine will work well with spicy foods." Wine Spectator 88 points: "This silky white shows spicy pear and floral notes that mingle nicely on the finish. Drink now. 5,000 cases imported. "
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 88 points: "The 2008 The Hermit Crab is a blend of 72% Viognier and 28% Marsanne. The aromatics offer floral notes, honey, candle wax, and peach. Smooth-textured and ripe, the wine also has excellent depth and length. Enjoy it over the next 1-2 years.”

CRIOS DE SUSANA BALBO TORRONTES 2009
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 90 points: "The 2009 Torrontes remains one of Argentina’s benchmarks for this variety. Sourced from 31-year-old vines in Cafayate (where the finest Torrontes grows), it displays a fragrant bouquet of spring flowers, honey, and tropical aromas. Medium-bodied and dry on the palate, it has ample fruit backed by vibrant acidity leading to a lengthy finish. Drink it over the next 2 years."
SINEANN PINOT GRIS 2009
CHALK HILL SAUVIGNON BLANC 2007

RED WINES
Wine Spectator 87 points: "Round and juicy, showing rich, ripe cherry and raspberry fruit, with sweet vanilla accents, light tannins and just enough acidity to keep it all lively. Drink now through 2014."
PROTOCOLO TINTO 2007 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 88 points: "(100% tempranillo) Opaque purple. Deep, smoky aromas of cherry and dark berries, with notes of cracked pepper and black tea adding power; smells like an old school California petite sirah. Very rich and chewy, dominated by deep dark fruit flavors. Most wines at anything close to this price are refreshing and grapey at best but this displays a seriousness that is a real shock. Finishes with good grip, silky tannins and a persistent note of dark berries. An outstanding value."
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 86 points: "The 2007 Tinto is 100% Tempranillo. Dark ruby-colored, it delivers spicy black cherry aromas leading to an easy-going, nicely balanced tapas wine for drinking over the next two years."

PARADOS DE DON MANUEL VILLAFANE MALBEC
PARADOS DE DON MANUEL VILLAFANE WINERMAKER’S SELECT RED
International Wine Review 90 points: "The Winemaker's Select is a highly attractive innovative blend of 40% Sangiovese, 40% Tempranillo and 20% Malbec. Star bright and medium ruby in color, it displays a pleasing red berry fruit nose with surprising intensity of ripe concentrated flavor and elegance on the palate."
CLINE ZINFANDEL
CASTLE ROCK CA CUVEE PINOT NOIR
CASTLE ROCK SONOMA PINOT NOIR 2008
EMILIO MORO FINCA RESALSO 2008
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 90 points: "An enticing perfume of mineral, violets, black cherry, and blackberry. On the palate it reveals an elegant personality, savory, spicy flavors, good depth, and a fruit-filled finish."
LAYER CAKE SHIRAZ 2009 Dark, dense and creamy, complex aromas of black plum, Bing cherry, blackberry and pepper merge with licorice, tobacco, mocha and dark chocolate. This is one inky Shiraz; an explosion of dark, super ripe, wild blackberry, with a touch of cigar box finishing with a mélange of exotic spices. A pure fruit bomb…complete from attack through a long, lingering finish. Chefs will save this cake for themselves…”
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 90 points: "This was not an easy vintage in Australia, but you would never know it from this wine.
CAT AMONGST THE PIGEONS SHIRAZ 2007
LUIGI BOSCA RESERVA PINOT NOIR ARGENTINA 2007
LUIGI BOSCA RESERVA CABERNET SAUVIGNON ARGENTINA 2007
LUIGI BOSCA RESERVA MALBEC ARGENTINA 2007
BERGERIE DE L'HORTUS ROUGE PIC SAINT LOUP 2007
TRITON 2008
Beautiful violet aromas and very well balanced. Even though it is big wine there is a certain elegance with nice ripe plums, great spice, some chocolate notes, but also nice smoky and meaty notes on the palate. There were only 4200 cases produced.

Orin Swift Cellars is the realization of a dream that began while studying abroad at the University of Florence in Florence, Italy. Like so many other college students David was at odds with what to do upon graduation. Fortunately his roommate at the time was from an old wine family in the Sonoma valley and he had a great suggestion: "Why not get into the wine business? You seem to like wine." David started Orin Swift Cellars with two tons of purchased Zinfandel grapes and as his wife always notes, "with one pair of shoes". Starting Orin Swift while still working for other wineries and as a result started small and worked part time. When you combine excellent wines with creative labeling you are bound to grow fast and now his full time job is with Orin Swift.
ORIN SWIFT CELLARS “THE PRISONER” 2008 NAPA VALLEY Winery Notes: “Great color, deep, dark garnet with a clean and bright red band in the rim. The 2008 has much the same tannin structure of the 2004 which is a personal favorite.” Wine Spectator 92 points: "Focused, rich and ripe, showing aromas of black cherry and smoky pepper, with sleek but complex flavors of boysenberry, licorice and toasty oak that linger with balanced tannins. Drink now through 2015." Reg. $49.99 . . . PEARSON’S SALE PRICE . . . $34.99 ORIN SWIFT “SALDO” ZINFANDEL 2008
88% Zinfandel, 8% Syrah, 4% Petite Syrah Through the succes of his Prisoner label, Orin Swift Cellars owner/winemaker Dave Phinney has gained access to some of the best Zinfandel vineyards in the Northern California growing community. Dave recently decided he wanted to make a high quality Zinfandel and what he created did not fit the constraints of a single AVA. There are grapes from Sonoma, Napa, Amador, Mendocino, and Contra Costa counties. Some of these great vineyards include Monte Rosso, Eagle Point, Rockpile, Bismark, Beatty, Page Nord, Duarte, Solari, Evangehlo, Battuelo's, Tofanelli, Korte, Mable Tiedemann, Frediani, Lewers, Alta Vista, and Bald Mountain just to name a few. Dave is so committed to this concept he is now developing his own Zinfandel vineyard in Sonoma specifically for this project as well. The word "saldo" has many different meanings in Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. In Spanish, it mainly refers to "balance on hand", and sometimes it can mean "from here and there." This wine represents the best of the best lots made by Dave from vineyards all across Northern California. Winery Notes: “The 2008 Saldo is rich, ripe, and full-bodied, with aromas of black cherry and bramble fruit. The tannins are soft but the wine has a huge mid-palate. The soft, lush finish lingers. 2008 was a perfect vintage for Saldo. The hot weather was ideal for creating ripe zinfandel. Drink now and enjoy over the next five years.” Wine Spectator 91 points: "Well-built, yet rich and stylish, with spicy blackberry aromas and zesty, layered flavors of black cherry and licorice framed by toasty oak. Offers a long, satisfying finish. Drink now through 2015." Reg. $39.99 . . . PEARSON'S SALE PRICE . . . $29.99 ORIN SWIFT CELLARS 2007 “PAPILLON” NAPA VALLEY BORDEAUX BLEND
90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec, & 1% Cabernet Franc
The image on the label is a photograph of third generation Napa Valley grape grower and winemaker Vince Toffanelli's hands. The photograph was taken by renowned photographer and dear friend Greg Gorman. Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 90 points: "The 2007 Papillon is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest other Bordeaux varietals. It exhibits supple, sweet tannin in addition to lush black cherry and black currant fruit, cedar, toasty new oak, and spice box. The finish suggests that the wine is still somewhat restrained and closed, but promising. It should evolve for 15 or more years." Reg. $74.99 . . . PEARSON’S SALE PRICE . . . $51.99

Robert Parker has said of this wine “At the suggested price ($20), it is a steal. It too is a great value." and we agree but we are having it on sale for $16.99 so what would Parker say about that!
Owner and viticulturist Pedro Marchevsky may be one of the most educated, experienced viticulturists in Argentina (if not the world). He has degrees in Agriculture & Enology and Agricultural Engineering, and is a Professor of Irrigation and Drainage at the Universidad Nacional de Cuyo. He has managed premium vineyards for over 30 years and also owns his own vineyard in the district of Los Campamentos in Eastern Mendoza. He is at the forefront of the transformation of Mendoza into a region of world-class vineyards. His philosophy is a simple one gained from experience: make wines that are true to their place. He feels his wines should express the wonderful, powerful fruit flavors, the ripe tannins, the incredible length and balance that can only come from this one place—Mendoza. The name BenMarco means "son of Marcos" in Hebrew. Pedro produces his wines as an homage to his father, Marcos who taught him how to plant, tend, and love the vineyards. He currently makes three wines, Expresivo, which captures the purest expression of his Menzoda harvest, his explosive and fruity Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec, which is in the soul of all true Argentines. The grapevine illustrated on the label is modeled after the wide-trellised vines that Pedro has planted on the borders of his vineyards (instead of unattractive fences). The BenMarco wines are crafted by his talented wife and winemaker, Susana Balbo. BenMarco wines are also produced under Dominio del Plata's code of sustainable agricultureIn 1999 Susana Balbo crafted a line of wines to showcase the ripe fruit expression of her sustainably-farmed Mendoza vineyards. The philosophy is a simple one: grow great grapes and make wines that are true to their place. Minimal intervention during the growing season and through harvest allows the true fruit character to develop. Combine this with Susana’s winemaking skills and the result is wines that express the powerful fruit flavors, the ripe tannins and the incredible length and balance that can only come from this one place: Mendoza.
BEN MARCO MALBEC 2008
Winery Notes: “Beautiful, deep purple color with perfumed aromas of ripe red fruits and roasted coffee beans. It is lush, full-bodied and penetrating on the palate with loads of chewy, currant jam flavors, bright acidity, and a touch of grip on the almost savory finish. This wine really unfolds with some air so try not to slurp it down in a rush, and it shows why the Argentine people are in love with Malbec.” Robert Parker 90 points: "The 2008 Malbec, which contains 10% Bonarda, spent 11 months in 50% new French oak and 50% first use American oak. Purple-colored, it reveals an expressive nose of wood smoke, cinnamon, incense, and black cherry. Round, ripe, medium-bodied, and savory, this layered effort has a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Enjoy it over the next 5 years. "

BRUCE CLUGSTON IS BACK AT PEARSON’S!
Gotham is produced by husband and wife Bruce Clugston and Fiona White Bruce and Fiona visited New York City in 2004; they had such a good time they thought that the pet name for NYC would be make a great wine label. Gotham city of course became famous in the Batman comics, but the sobriquet was first used by Washington Irving in a satirical set of short stories published in Salmagundi around 1807, parodying the people and dignitaries of New York. His inspiration surely came from the mythical wise men of Gotham, who are said to have feigned madness to avoid paying taxes. There is no charge for the tasting . . . however we must be prepared. "Hey, Michael, what's in your stash today?" Michael has some wine gems today that he has stashed away just for the Fourth of July Weekend.
IN THE HEART OF RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY HISTORIC LANDMARK, LEGENDARY WINES
In 1990, Courtney Benham was walking through an old warehouse in San Jose when he chanced upon a forgotten treasure -- some 1,500 cases of library wines, dating back more than forty years, made by California wine pioneer Martin Ray. Courtney explored further and found several old wooden crates filled with letters, press clippings, winery brochures and price lists from Ray's four decades as a winemaker. It was clear that Martin Ray had quite a history, so Courtney contacted the Ray family and acquired the wine library and rights to the Martin Ray label. He decided to take up the Martin Ray brand with the goal of creating wines whose quality would make Martin Ray himself proud. This was no small task, for Ray was an iconoclast who rejected mediocrity and an innovator who was one of the first to use grapes from the Santa Cruz Mountains to create premium wines. Traditional winemaking in the Burgundy region of France emphasizes hands-on techniques that create conditions in which a wine's essence can unfold naturally. Martin Ray wines are based on this time-honored approach. This technique depends on the winemaker's ability to know intuitively when to interpose and when to let nature take its course. The essence of Martin Ray is a no-compromise approach that insists on two compelling factors: hillside vineyards and intuitive winemaking. This is the tradition that inspired the original Martin Ray, and which inspires the wines that today bear his name. The Martin Ray intuitive winemaking method includes low SO 2 management, 100% French Oak barrel fermentation, open top-tanks, punching down the caps, extended barrel maturation and lengthy bottle aging. During his lifetime, Ray was one of the few California Winemakers, outside of Europe to use such meticulous techniques, which is why many considered Ray to be a visionary, and why he is frequently called "the father of California fine wines."
Winery Notes: " When it comes to Pinot Noir, we apply traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques. The key to our winemaking is the "intuitive" approach of understanding when to step back and not to over manipulate the wine. Our goal is to allow the wine to develop its own depth and distinctive characteristics. Three days "cold soaked", fermented at moderate temperatures and twelve months of aging in French oak barrels develops a rounder, creamier texture in the wine. The 2007 Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir has a brilliant garnet color and aromas of berries and vanilla. The palate is full and sensual with ripe raspberry and strawberry, elegantly balanced with vanilla. The mouth boasts creamy, supple texture and opulent fruit, fused with smooth but bright flavors on the finish." Reg. $24.99 . . . Martin Ray Cabernet Sauvignon is a superb blend of grapes grown in the three distinguished appellations: Napa Valley, Mendocino County and Sonoma County. The Napa Valley component is comprised of vineyards from Atlas Peak, Oak Knoll, Diamond Mountain District & Stags Leap District, where high elevations and volcanic soils result in small, intense berries. The ridge top vineyards in Mendocino County which are exposed to the maritime influences of the Pacific Ocean, produce grapes with rich color and flavors. The balance comes from vineyards in the Alexander Valley and Sonoma Valley appellations of Sonoma County, where distinctive flavors and varietal characteristics are influenced by unique soil compositions. Aged 20 months in French oak." Reg. $24.99 . . . DOMAINE DE LA COURTADE
The estate was purchased by Henri Vidal in 1979, who employed Dijon graduate Richard Authur to develop and maintain a vineyard. The harvest is manual, with extensive destemming of fruit, temperature controlled fermentation, and up to nine months in oak thereafter for whites, up to eighteen for reds. The white is Rolle, harvested at 40 hl/ha. Called Rolle in France it is the same varietal as Vermentino the grape found in many great Italian wines. DOMAINE DE LA COURTADE L'ALYCASTRE WHITE 2009
Winery Notes: "
The nose is clean, fresh and open, exhibiting fresh apple fruit, zingy citrus (lemon/lime) and mineral notes. Also a touch of grapefruit and an herbal note. On the palate it has sharp, lemony citrus and pink grapefruit flavors, dabs of mineral/stone and a good bite of acidity. Through the midpalate it remains clean, crisp and refreshing, with good balance. This is the antithesis of a fat, oaky chardonnay; it is more like a clean and vibrant, unoaked sauv-blanc."
