CHATEAU DE MONTFAUCON "VIN DE MONSIEUR LE BARON DE MONTFAUCON" VIN DE PAYS DU GARD 2007 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 92 points: "The 2007 Vin de Pays Le Baron de Montfaucon is a 500-case cuvee made from an unusual combination of 15 different grapes that are all co-fermented together. Aged in 100% old barrels, this outstanding wine's dense ruby/purple color is followed by exotic notes of honeysuckle, marmalade, red currants, black currants, blackberries, licorice, loamy soil, and tobacco leaf. Singular in style and seriously endowed, it can be drunk now or cellared for 5-7 years."
Wine Spectator 91 points: "Aromatic and very stylish, with alluring blackberry, spice and incense notes leading the way for silky-textured plum, red currant and fig fruit. The long finish reveals toast and graphite hints while keeping its fresh, elegant profile. Drink now through 2013. 490 cases made."
SHAFER ONE POINT FIVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2006
Wine Enthusiast 90 points: "Sourced primarily from two Stags Leap Districts - the famed Hillside estate and the Borderline vineyard - this generation-and-a-half idea is a great selection for Shafer lovers who might not be able to indulge in the Hillside Select (or can't get their hands on a bottle). Sweet blackberry, plum and current fruit aromas and flavors are complemented by nuances of savory herbs, cocoa and cigar box (complete with cigars!)."

CHALK HILL ESTATE CHARDONNAY 2006
CHALK HILL'S POTENTIAL FOR GREAT CHARDONNAY was discovered early and it became one of the initial plantings. The oldest, Founder's Block dates back to the establishment of the winery, in 1972, and remains a keystone in the estate's Chardonnay program.
In order to draw out its true varietal character, and imprint the Chalk Hill Estate signature, the winemaking regime always includes: whole cluster pressing, natural yeast and malolactic fermentations in barrel, sur lie aging (with batonage) in French oak, and unfiltered bottling- tried-and-true Burgundian techniques.
Wine Enthusiast 92 points: "Here's a chard that's ultra-rich in flavor, yet firm in acids which makes for great balance and harmony. Fully dry, it tasted of grilled pineapples, nectartines, and buttered toast with honey and cinnamon."
Wine Advocate 90 points: "A strong success in a challenging vintage, the 2006 Chardonnay reveals notes of spicy oak interwoven with tropical fruits, citrus butter and orange oil. Full- bodied, layered, fresh and lively, it can be enjoyed over the next 1-2 years."
Winery Notes: "The 2006 Chalk Hill Estate
Chardonnay is creamy and complex, openingup to
reveal multi-layers of intricate aromas and flavors as it
breathes in the glass. Barrel fermented with native
yeasts and bottled without fining or filtration, this wine
experienced a gentle and natural progression from
grape to bottle. Aromas of white flowers, ginger, and
white peach preceed a slight flintiness and fresh
cream. The palate combines Asian pear, jasmine
blossom, and a sur-lie creaminess with and earthy,
wet-stone minerality."

2005 BORDEAUX SALE
The 2005 Bordeaux Vintage wine has received such high reviews that demand for the wine continues to rise rapidly. We were fortunately able to get a few cases of some great wines and are able to get them to you at a great price that you will find are one of the best prices anywhere.
Acclaimed wine critic, Robert Parker has described the 2005 Bordeaux vintage as being "the greatest vintage produced during my 30 year career" and this is his assessment of the Vintage along with the different regions of Bordeaux.
"Historically, the finest Bordeaux vintages (including 2000, 1990, 1982, 1961, 1959, 1949, 1947 and 1945) have resulted from dry, hot weather in the summer and fall. And while Bordeaux experienced relatively severe, even drought like conditions in 2005, there were no periods of torrid heat, even in July, August and September. Other notable facts about the 2005 wines: They have some of the highest tannin levels in modern-day red Bordeaux, extremely high levels of dry extract (in other words, these are seriously concentrated wines), high alcohol levels (even higher than 2003-a vintage of record alcohol levels) and moderate acid levels (which give the best wines a fresh, lively, almost tangy character). Overall, the 2005 Bordeaux have turned out brilliantly, and 2005 does appear to be one of the most singular years of the past five decades.
The 2005 wines were especially tannic in the northern Médoc communes of St-Julien, Pauillac and St-Estèphe. But, unlike the best wines of 1982, 1989 and 1990, most of the 2005s will not be approachable for 10 to 15 years-at minimum. However, past experience suggests they will require many years of cellaring-30 to 50 years, in fact. The good news is that even these tannic monsters are fresh, concentrated and well balanced.
Meanwhile, I thought the wines of the Margaux appellation were the finest I have ever tasted in my 28 years of assessing Bordeaux vintages in the early stages of development. The wines have sweeter tannins than their northern Médoc neighbors as well as greater breadth of flavor. They should also be approachable while relatively young-in six to eight years. Consequently, they may also be quite high- priced.
Standouts of the 2005 vintage include the Graves region on the Left Bank and the Right Bank appellations of Pomerol and St-Émilion. In all three of these areas, the wines are concentrated, massive and high in tannin. However, because there is very little Cabernet Sauvignon in most of the blends (Merlot and Cabernet Franc are the favored grapes, especially in Pomerol and St-Émilion), the tannins are sweeter and the wines more approachable. In fact, many of the wines will offer compelling drinking in six to eight years, although they will continue to evolve for three decades or more. Another advantage these wines possess is that the lower-level St-Émilion and Graves offerings will not be nearly as expensive as the more famous and aristocratic names of the northern Médoc."
CHATEAU LA GURGUE MARGAUX 2005
Wine Spectator 91 points:
"Full and silky, with lots of berry, chocolate and spice
character. Wonderful texture to this wine. Best ever
from here?
Like cashmere. Almost 92-94. Tasted twice, with
consistent notes."

CHATEAU FOMBRAUGE ST. EMILION
2005
Wine Spectator 91 points:
"Dark in color, with intense aromas of dried
mushroom and very ripe fruit. Almost raisiny. Full-
bodied, with chewy tannins and lots of ripe fruit. Turns
meaty and raisiny. A very mature style, but one that I
like a lot. This is always a wonderful value. Best after
2013. 13,000 cases made."
The Wine Advocate 90 points:
"An in-your-face style of wine, the 2005 Fombrauge
(the largest vineyard in St.-Emilion) is a blend of 77%
Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Cabernet
Sauvignon. The inky/purple color is followed by a big,
sweet nose of chocolate fudge, jammy black cherries,
blackberries, smoke, and pain grille. This chewy,
powerful, decadent St.-Emilion is a modern-styled,
impressively endowed, pure, intense wine. It is
another brilliant example of winemaking from
proprietor Bernard Magrez. Anticipated maturity: 2010-
2020+. "

CHATEAU LAFLEUR GAZIN POMEROL 2005

CHATEAU D'ARMAILHAC PAUILLAC 2005
The Wine Advocate 90+ points: "This
powerful, tannic, structured effort from Mouton-
Rothschild's stable is a blend of 60% Cabernet
Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc
and Petit Verdot. Its dense ruby/purple color is
followed by an earthy nose dominated by black
currants and toasty, smoky oak. Medium to full-bodied
with relatively high tannin, decent acidity, and a fine
finish, it should be at its best between 2014-2030."

CHATEAU PRIEURE LICHINE MARGAUX
2005
The Wine Advocate 92 points: "The finest
Prieure-Lichine I have ever tasted, the sensational
2005 has unquestionably benefitted from the
improvements made at this property as well as the
consultation work of Stephane Derenoncourt. Its
dense purple color is accompanied by a glorious
perfume of forest floor, blackberries, incense, and
cassis. Opulent, with sweet tannin for the vintage,
excellent purity, and a savory, broad, expansive mouth
feel that lingers on the palate, it possesses the
delicacy of a terrific Margaux as well as enough
concentration and power to give it an extra dimension.
This wine should be drinkable in 4-5 years, and last
for 25 or more. Bravo!"

CHATEAU GRUAUD LAROSE ST. JULIEN
2005
Wine Enthusiast 94 points: "This tastes
of
great Cabernet Sauvignon, with its black currant,
cedar and herbs and fresh, juicy acidity. It is as fresh
as it is rich, but it has a structure of dense tannins that
balances the wine. This is one of the best wines from
Gruaud-Larose for several years."
Wine Spectator 91 points: "Aromas of
blackberry, meat and earth follow through to a full
body, with velvety tannins and a rich finish. Decadent,
balanced and very approachable already. I thought it
would have been a little better than this. Best after
2014."

BREGGO PINOT NOIR ANDERSON
VALLEY 2007
The word 'Breggo' means sheep in Boontling,
derived from the Spanish word Borrego of the same
meaning. The winery was named in honor of the
region's history. Breggo's proprietor and winemaker,
Douglas Ian Stewart grew up in the town of Sonoma
surrounded by family who had been growing grapes
and selling wine for six generations. His wife and
coproprietor Ana Lucia Benitz-Stewart grew up in
Ecuador in a family whose roots as farmers and
ranchers date to Spanish colonial times.
In 2000, Doug and Ana Lucia bought an old
sheep
ranch three miles north of Boonville on Highway 128.
The ranch spans 203 acres stretching from the
roadside to the ridge.
Doug and Ana Lucia approach
winemaking with one basic premise: great wine is
made in the vineyard. It is this belief which drives their
decision to source fruit from Anderson Valley's most
renowned vineyard sites: Savoy, Ferrington, Wiley and
Donnelly Creek.
Robert Parker described Breggo as "an impressive, up-and-coming operation in the Anderson Valley" and "Breggo wines were a remarkable discovery, Anderson Valley is becoming one of the "hot" new cool climate sources of not only white varietals, but also increasing quantities of high quality Pinot Noir".
Breggo Cellars strives to express the cooler climate of the Anderson Valley and the unique terroirs that the vineyards possess. This Savoy vineyard offering is a young beauty possessing mint, currant and blackberry complexities with great length on the finish. This structured Pinot will have a very long life.
The Wine Advocate Robert Parker 92 points
: "The impressive 2007 Pinot Noir Savoy
Vineyard's dark ruby color is followed by a beautiful
bouquet of blueberries, lavender, pomegranate, and
subtle oak as well as wet rock characteristics. A wine
of considerable charm, pure fruit, and medium to full
body, it should drink well for 5-7 years".
Wine Spectator 91 points : "Intense and
fleshy, with a tight beam of black cherry, wild berry and
raspberry flavors that's full-bodied, complex and
concentrated, ending with a delicate aftertaste. Drink
now through 2013". 1,291 cases made.

NEYERS ZINFANDEL PATO VINEYARD
2006
THIS IS A TREAT FOR ALL TURLEY ZIN
LOVERS
"One would think Bruce Neyers has little time.
After all, he is the full-time (or over-time) national
sales representative for Kermit Lynch importing
company. Yet Neyers also has an impressive portfolio
of wines, some of which come from his own estate
vineyards tucked away in the Conn Valley. His
winemaker is none other than Turley Cellars' highly
respected Ehren Jordan (the world's premier
Zinfandel specialist). I thought this was the strongest
line-up of wines Neyers has yet produced, although
last year the tastings were nearly as good, so he
seems to be on a roll." - Robert Parker
Neyers Vineyards sits in the heart of the Napa Valley. The barrels are made in France and air dried for three years, a year longer than normal. All of the grapes are picked by hand, into half-ton bins, then laboriously hand sorted at the winery. The Zinfandel bottling are from low-yielding, old vine sources. The Pato Ranch in Oakley was planted in 1896 and includes some of the last remaining own- rooted Zinfandel vines in California. These old, dry- farmed vines rarely yield a crop of more than a ton or so per acre, and the fruit produces a bright, enormously attractive example of the varietal.
Winery Notes : "The fruit from these 110
year-old vines was harvested on September 26 and
September 27 in 2006, a full month later than this
vineyard's average harvest date over the past ten
years! This extra 30 days of "hang-time" allowed the
grapes to ripen fully and give us a balanced wine with
both complexity and intensity. The additional maturity
also seems to have heightened the "crushed
strawberry" aroma that is such an attractive
component to fans of this wine. The color is dark and
there are hints of cocoa and clove. The soft, rich flavor
is just way too charming. There's a small percentage
of "field blended" Mourvèdre and Petite Sirah here,
each contributing additional elements."
The Wine Advocate 90 points : "As for the
2006 Zinfandel Pato Vineyard, this wine has a dark
ruby color as well, with hints of bay leaf, tobacco,
loamy soil notes, and some sweet cherry and
strawberry notes. The wine is medium-bodied, spicy,
and best drunk over the next 2-3 years as well."

LEGADO MALBEC RESERVA MENDOZA
2006
Founder, Tomas Machado's family ancestor Don
Manuel de Villefane began making wine in Argentina
in the year 1611, which gives them nearly 400 years of
wine making experience here in the heart of South
America. This impressive winery represents
his 'Legacy' or 'Legado' (in Spanish), and they are
proud to honor his memory with these fine wines of
Maipu, Mendoza. This is the king of the red wines in
Argentina. These grapes were picked by hand at 3200
feet elevation at the base of the Andes Mountains in
Lujan de Cuyo. Only the free-run juice was used and a
maceration was used before and after the
fermentation of this Malbec. Fourteen months in
French oak barrels.
International Wine Review 89
points: "The Legado 2006 Malbec Reserva is a
step up from the regular bottling, revealing more
intensity of flavor. Made exclusively from free run juice
and aged 14 months in French oak, it is medium dark
ruby in color and offers a nose of spicy black and red
fruit and nicely integrated sweet oak. On the palate it is
well balanced with rich fruit and toasted oak flavors,
sweet tannins and a long finish."

ANTIS CHARDONNAY MENDOZA 2008
Argentina is on a roll. Few wine regions can
match the high quality and reasonable prices of the
wines being produced in Argentina today.
The home of ANTIS Wines is a modern,
technologically advanced winery located in a 40 acre
vineyard at the foothills of the Andes mountains in
Rodeo del Medio, at the heart of the Maipu district in
Mendoza. The seeds of the winery date back some 90-
odd years when the Italian and Spanish immigrant
ancestors of Gonzalo Cabral and his business
partners planted their first Malbec vines. Built in 2002
and designed with functional and aesthetic principles
in mind, the 300,000-liter winery employs the latest

ANTIS Wines is centered on crafting wines that reflect their passion for wine and speak of the land where the grapes were nurtured. They are constantly seeking to craft wines that are refined, elegant, well balanced and reflect good expression of varietal character. They believe that their task is to effectively recreate and enhance the potential contained in the grapes, using the best available materials and state- of-the-art knowledge and technologies. Central to this belief is the notion that great wines start on the vine and they have, therefore, located their vineyards in some of the prime areas in the region.
The Chardonnay a premium white varietal wine made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, grown at 800 meters of altitude, in a very rocky soil with excellent drainage. Comes from an excellent vintage with very good weather, allowing the grapes to achieve optimum ripeness followed by a timely harvest by hand.
Winery Notes: "It has a beautiful pale
golden color. The bouquets shows attractive peach,
melon, and citrus fruit characters. In the mouth it is
medium bodied, well balanced with wonderful soft
citrus and pineapple flavors, very good length and
finishes with an excellent fresh and soft acidity."

THE MACALLAN
A local farmer named Alexander Reid obtained a license to run a legal distillery in an area called Easter Elchies House in 1824. Roderick Kemp bought the distillery 70 years later and began establishing The Macallan as an international brand. The Macallan from the Speyside region of Scotland is considered by many to be the world's finest single-malt whiskey, earning monikers such as "the Rolls Royce of single malts" and "the Dom Perignon of Scotch." Throughout its long history, connoisseurs of fine scotch have held it in high esteem, and today it is one of the best known and loved single malts on the world market. Safeguarding the company's reputation for quality is its adherence to traditional distillery techniques, including the use of small, hand-crafted brass stills, high quality "Golden Promise" barley, and Spanish oak sherry casks for aging at its Craigellachie, Scotland base. The Macallan single malt whiskey comes in a variety of ages. The company also releases Cask Strength and "replica" bottles of 1841 and 1861 single malt whiskeys. Macallan pioneered the trend for laying down stock in the 1950s and 1960s, allowing it to create a new vintage class of single malt whiskeys.THE MACALLAN 12 YEAR OLD

Johnnie Walker has been soothing our souls for

when Johnnie and his grandsons named the first
signature black label and the company has blended
the scotch in the exact same style since then. It was
grandson Alexander II who decided to do a square-
shaped bottle in order to reduce breakage when
shipping. The Black Label Centenary Edition features

Importer Bobby Kacher has been working with Domaine Ogier of Cote Rotie in the northern Rhone for twenty years . . . first with the father, Michel, and now with his son, Stephane.
For more than thirty years Stephane and his father have been growing the vines on these ultra-steep slopes overlooking the Rhone River . . . lately Stephane has been purchasing new, small vineyard sites just outside of Cote Rotie on the other side of the Rhone River. The Domaine specializes in the traditional Cote Rotie grapes, Syrah and Viognier.
Bobby can hardly contain himself when he describes what the Domaine has accomplished, "Stephane's work has elevated Domaine Ogier to superstar status."
Robert Parker comments on Ogier: "The Ogiers are a wonderful family, and it's gratifying to see the extraordinary quality of wine that continues to emerge from them The son Stephane has taken over fully from his dad, who seems to be inching into full retirement, and continues to push the estate to higher and higher levels of quality."
We have a limited number of Ogier's highly rated wines . . . his Rosine Viognier and Syrah and L'Ame Soeur Syrah will be open for tasting while they last.
In addition, we have a very limited number of bottles of Belle Helene 2004 and the very rare 1999 . . . a 100 point wine that Robert Parker described as, "majestic . . . a tour de force in winemaking . . . magical."
All are drastically reduced this weekend only.
DOMAINE OGIER LA BELLE HELENE COTE ROTIE
1999 . . . 4 bottles available
Robert Kacher's notes: "The
prestige cuvée and the boldest wine of the
domaine is the Belle Helene, named after
Stephane's mother. The Ogiers own .32
hectares of vines planted in the 1960's in
the lieu-dit Cote-Rozier, and this special
bottling is made solely of Syrah from this
renowned vineyard in the Cote Brune. Vinified
and aged in all new cask for 24 to 30 months,
the Belle Helene is, simply put, a huge wine
with copious amounts of ripe dark fruits and
spice."
Robert Parker Wine Advocate 100
points: "The finest Cote Roties Ogier has
made (and he agrees) are the 1999s. The
perfect 1999 Cote Rozier Cuvee Belle Helene
is a seamless, majestic classic with the
kind of concentration found only in Guigal's
top cuvees. It boasts gorgeously sweet
tannin, enormous levels of both extract and
concentration, and is not only a tour de
force in winemaking, but a huge Cote Rotie
Syrah fruit bomb with massive glycerin,
layers of extract, and plenty of toasty new
oak, which is marvelously integrated given
the fact that it spent 30 months in 100% new
wood barrels prior to being bottled without
filtration. This outstanding effort requires
5-6 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity:
2008-2030. Bravo! Michel Ogier and his
son, Stephane, are producing spectacular
wines. The only problem is that production is
small. As I indicated last year, Ogier's
1999s are magical."

DOMAINE OGIER LA BELLE HELENE COTE ROTIE
2004 . . . 16 bottles available
Wine Spectator 94 points: "Very
rich for the vintage, with fig and currant
paste notes leading the way for more typical
iron and coffee bean elements. The long
finish pumps out fleshy fruit and a great
tangy minerality, with ample structure for
cellaring. Drink now through 2020. 165 cases
made."
Stephen Tanzer International Wine
Cellar 93 points: "Dark violet. Dark
cherry and cassis aromas lifted by candied
licorice, nutmeg and violet. Then sweeter and
brighter on the palate, with strong
strawberry and raspberry flavors, firm, chewy
tannins and a late-arriving chocolate note.
This put on weight with air and seems poised
for a long life."
Robert Parker Wine Advocate 91-93
points: "The limited production but
phenomenal 2004 Cote Rotie La Belle Helene is
one of the candidates for the wine of the
vintage. Tannic and dense ruby/purple, it is
more masculine and austere than usual, but
still concentrated with tangy acidity, loads
of tannin, and impressive levels of
concentration and richness. This is a beauty
that will require patience. Give it 3-4 years
of bottle age and then drink it over the
following 10-12 years."

Robert Kacher's notes: "Though the
Ogiers have vineyards planted in various
sections of the Cote Rotie appellation, the
majority are in the Cote Blonde, which has
more calcaire in the soil. The wines produced
from these vineyards typically show more
finesse than the Cote Brune wine, where clay
dominates. The Domaine Ogier Cote Rotie is
produced from 70% Cote Blonde fruit and 30%
Cote Brune fruit. Their vines are between
18-63 years old. As with all of Ogier's
wines, this is a beautifully balanced Syrah
loaded with rich black fruits and a smoky,
spicy pallet. The texture is smooth and silky
with a very long finish."
Wine Spectator 93 points: "Silky

from these west-facing vines, which average

1983. They are vertically trellised and are
of the Pommard clone. Elevation is 450' to
550'. The soil is a mix of Jory and Nekia.
Both are formed from igneous rock and have a
reddish-brown tint. This site, however, has
less depth than similar soils in the Dundee
Hills. Wine from this vineyard is typically
very forward, with aromas of black cherry and
cola. Approximately 625 cases are produced.
The vineyard is owned by Dick and Nancy
Daniel, and managed by Mark Gould."

and was planted in 1983. This bottling is
comprised of the Wadenswil, Dijon 777, Dijon
667, Dijon 115, and Pommard clones. The wine
is firmer than Canary Hill in its youth but
evolves beautifully after a few years in
bottle to show black fruits and fresh,
healthy earth scents. Approximately 650 cases
are produced. The vineyard is owned by Jack

resistant rootstock.. Total planted acreage
as of spring 2002 is approximately 17 acres.
Vine spacing is 6.5' x 4' and the elevations
averages 450'. The soil is comprised of
marine sediments known as Wellsdale and
Willakenzie. These are sandy soils which
drain quickly and hasten the ripening
process. Our first commercial crop, 2002, has
produced a muscular wine that has aromas of
dense black fruit, seared meat, cedar and

wine, often priced below $20, is a lovely,
lovely drink. It's fresh, subtly fruity with
understated but evident oak adding a layer of
character over the peach-nectarine fruit. It
retains delicacy and subtlety on the palate
while being well concentrated and intense,
lingering and with restrained power. A model
chardonnay and, because of its low-key oak,
all the more digestible and wide in its
appeal. Drink now to three or four years."

BERINGER NAPA VALLEY CHARDONNAY 2006
Winery notes: "When making the
2006 Napa Valley Chardonnay, Laurie kept each
lot separate and used several different
techniques to retain the bright fruitiness in
the wine while also adding richness and
complexity. After the grapes were gently
destemmed and crushed, slightly more than
half of the juice was fermented and aged for
8 months in French oak barrels to enhance its
natural richness and roundness, but she chose
to use one quarter new barrels and limited
battonage significantly so aroma and flavor
components from the oak and yeast lees would
not be overpowering. The remaining juice was
stainless steel fermented to retain more of
the pure fruit character. Additionally, to
maintain a balancing crispness in the wine,
Laurie chose only 20% of the wine to undergo
malolactic fermentation."
Wine Advocate Robert Parker 87
points: "The 2006 Chardonnay Napa is
crisp and lean, with copious amounts of lemon
oil, guava, and nectarine aromas, it is a
medium-weight, dry, refreshing white to enjoy
over the next 1-3 years."

This is a repeat . . . we've already sold
more than a hundred cases of this hugely
flavored Syrah this fall . . . today will be
your last chance to get in on the action.
From Oregon, but not Willamette Valley . . . it's from the Rogue Valley . . . nearly 300 miles to the south . . . a hotter, drier region that does much better with the darker varietals . . . Merlot, Cabernet, Cabernet Franc and Syrah.
EdenVale's history goes back to 1885 . . . originally a pear orchard known as the birthplace of Oregon's commercial pear industry . . . located on some of the oldest agricultural property in the Valley . . . listed on the National Register of Historic places.
This 2004 is EdenVale's current release . . . 4 years after the vintage and well worth the wait. Hearty and flavorful. Dark, smokey and meaty. Creamy and chewy.
When I opened it I was astonished at all the flavors and texture . . . spice, cocao, anise, bacon fat, even some dried cranberry swimming around in there. . . as many flavors in this baby as all the flavors on your holiday table.
You would not have wanted to drink this wine in its first or second year. The tannins, which surely made this wine unapproachable two or three years ago, are now mellow and well integrated, but still evident and suggest that this robust wine will cellar for another five years.
This is not a wine on the national ratings radar, but the winery claims it is the most awarded Syrah in Oregon . . . local judgings include a Gold medal, two Silver and two Bronze . . . IT'S ON MY TOP TEN!
HALF PRICE TODAY ONLY . . . open for tasting while they last.

EDENVALE ROGUE VALLEY SYRAH 2004

this Syrah opens with rich and silky black
cherry fruit balanced with oak enhancing the
cacao bean and toasted coffee notes. This
spicy peppery Rogue Valley Syrah is bound to
ensure a passion packed wine experience now
and will hold well into the future. Varietal
characteristics are anise, tobacco and dried
black cherry, finishing with chocolate and
coffee notes. Besides just sipping this wine
to enjoy the exotic flavors, consider pairing
with a varied range of spicy flavorful meats
with sauces including cheeses. This is

tones. Spicy dark berry flavors show good

tannins on the close."

3. THIERRY & PASCALE MATROT BOURGOGNE
CHARDONNAY 2006
The Matrots have been experimenting with
a special cuvee which makes use of some of
the new barrels they have been investing in.
The oak is used very judiciously . . .
married with the plump Chardonnay fruit so
that it is evident only by its texture and
weight on the palate. Fermented and aged in
only 25% new oak and released after two years
of aging. The wine is deliciously opulent yet
racy.
Round, opulent and racy. The wine has
beautiful minerality balanced with fresh,
citrusy acidity. The nose shows ripe melon
and pears. On the palate it is quite
minerally and lemony. More perfume than you'd
ever expect from a simple Bourgogne. Importer
Danny Haas describes the experience as "very
much like biting into the skin of a grape."
This wine pops!

4. LOCKWOOD MONTEREY "ESTATE" SAUVIGNON BLANC
2007
The Lockwood estate covers 1,850 acres .
. . large by any standards . . . but to me
the most intriguing thing is that three
decades later Lockwood is still in the
private hands of the original partners . . .
and that every last Lockwood grape is grown,
vinified and bottled on the Lockwood Estate .
. . which means that they do not purchase a
single grape or a drop of wine from any
outside source . . . a fact which makes
Lockwood one of the largest "Estate" wineries
in the world.
Winery notes: "The Sauvignon Blanc
is always the most delicious grape to taste
from the vine, as its varietal character is
so refreshingly evident. As it reached full
ripeness, the fruit tasted exceptionally
incredible this year. After harvesting in the
early morning, the fruit went through a
gentle pressing, and the juice went directly
to stainless steel tank for settling. Post
settling, the juice was moved to another tank
for inoculation. The entire lot was fermented
cold, to retain the fruity aromatics. A cold
tolerant and aromatic producing yeast is what
brings the freshness to this Lockwood wine style.
Melon rind and fresh citrus flavors are
carried by aromas of ruby grapefruit and
green pear. This vivid wine can be enjoyed
any time of day, especially with fresh
oysters on the half shell or a crab salad."

Winery notes: "As the flavor
development in the fruit reached its peak, we
harvested our Chardonnay in the early hours
of September 28th. The free run juice was
separated and cold soaked for 48 hours. The
settled juice was then inoculated with yeast
for stainless fermentation with a percentage
sent to French oak for barrel fermentation.
The cool fermenting tank lots are used to
compliment the lush character of the warmer
barrel fermentation. The stainless fermented
juice is then aged in French oak to enhance
complexity.
The 2006 Chardonnay has aromas of citrus
blossom. On the palate, the wine shows
flavors of tropical fruit with a mineral
background that is a terrior expression of
our shaly laom soil type. The wine is
elegant, fresh and radiant with a varietal
character. This Chardonnay would complement a
lightly grilled salmon or a roasted poultry
dish."

NOIR 2006

Winery notes: "We felt we had
achieved maximum flavor in the fruit of block
7 by the middle of October. The fruit was
cold soaked for 48 hours to extract middle
palate complexity. The wine was pumped over
four times a day during fermentation. The
entire ferment lasted 8 days. The wine was
pressed and transferred to oak barrels to
complete malolactic fermentation. Barrel
aging for seven months brought the aromatic
fruit and balance to the 2006 Block 7 Pinot Noir.
In the glass the wine has a powerful
bouquet of dried cherries and plum spice. On
the palate the flavors begin with a rose
petal character that follows with wild
strawberry and clove tones. The balance of
earthiness from the smell of a redwood grove
to the elegance of delicate spice best
describe the mouth feel. This Pinot Noir would
complement a hearty pasta dish or a garlic
spiced rack of lamb."

. . which means that they do not purchase a

Winery notes: "Our winery received
the Merlot and crushed it in the cool of the
morning. We cold soaked the fruit for 48
hours. The fermentation lasted 6 days and we
pressed off at 5 brix to tank to finish
fermentation. This is done to avoid
extracting the harsh tannins into the new
wine. The wine was then French oak aged for
12 months to add a toasty nuance. The first
response of the staff was the fragrance and
softness of this wine, and as maloactic
completed, we knew we had a gem.
The wine starts in the palate with an
aromatic fruit bouquet, that has the
characteristic spice of Merlot fruit. Soft in
the middle palate, the silky tannins and
delicate balance of acidity and oak make this
wine a treat. The flavors of blueberry with
the fragrance of rose petals balance this
elegant Merlot. To pair this wine seek
lighter sauces. Baked chicken with rosemary,
or an herbed pork loin with wild rice. This
wine will show gracefully with all of your
lighter creations. Enjoy."

Lockwood one of the largest "Estate" wineries
in the world.
Winery notes: "We picked the 2006
Cabernet Sauvignon in the first week of
November. The fruit had enjoyed a long
growing season and had ripened to 26 brix. We
held the must at 55 degrees for 48 hours to
enhance the extraction during the
fermentation. We inoculated with a yeast
strain that ferments slowly and we reached a
peak temperature of 87 degrees during the 10
day fermentation. After pressing the wine was
aged in French oak for 13 months.
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is a
beautiful expression of our southern Monterey
county vineyard. The aromatics are fresh and
resemble a medley of black cherry and
boysenberry. On the palate spice tones of
leaf tobacco and ripe plum carry the mouth
feel. On the finish a freshness of varietal
Cabernet fruit shows off a sublime
toastiness. This is a vintage for true
Cabernet Sauvignon fans. This wine can be
enjoyed with a thick grilled steak. Salud."

9. VINA ALICIA PASO DE PIEDRA RESERVA
CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2005
Vina Alicia is a stunning property in
Lujan de Cuyo . . . the best growing region
of Mendoza . . . in the foothills of the
Andes, Did I mention tiny? Until recently
total production was only 1,500 six bottle
cases of superb $60-$80 wines.
Yesterday I drank a bottle of their new
"second" wine . . . Paso de Piedra Cabernet
Sauvignon . . . WOW . . . the idea was to
make a superb facsimile of the Vina Alicia,
but one that could be drunk earlier . . . at
half the price. Only 354 six pack cases of
this beauty were produced.
Wine Advocate 90 points: The 2005
Cabernet Sauvignon "Paso de Piedra" was also
aged for 6 months in French oak. It is
purple-colored with notes of spice box,
toasty oak and black currants. Very
Medoc-like, it has an elegant personality,
lingering black fruit flavors, and 2-3 years
of aging potential. It should drink well
through 2020
Posted by Fredric Koeppel: The
color is deep, dense ruby; the bouquet
delivers penetrating aromas of creme de
cassis, black raspberry and black cherry
permeated by licorice, dried flowers and
smoke. In the mouth, minerals with an edge of
charcoal take over, walnut shell and
underbrush, palate-coating tannins, all
encompassing a luscious yet dry core of
bittersweet chocolate-covered currants and
raspberries. The finish is long, dry and
austere. The wine was fermented in large oak
casks and then aged in barrels for six
months. Now (with a grilled t-bone steak)
through 2012 or '15.

Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Merlot
and Cabernet Franc. It was barrel-fermented
and aged in seasoned French oak for 12
months. Deep crimson-colored, it yields a
complex aromatic array of cedar, spice box,
clove, pepper, cassis, and blueberry.

offers up fragrant aromas of cedar, smoke,
tar, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur.

The 2005 may prove to be the best and most distinctive Dominus ever . . . in barrel Parker judged the wine to be worthy of 90-92 points . . . by the time it was in bottle he revised his assessment upward to 96 points, describing it as "one of the strongest efforts they've made."

DOMINUS 2005
Robert Parker rated 96 points:
"The 2005 Dominus (a 7,000-case cuvee of 92%
Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest equal parts
Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) has come of
age, and is one of the strongest efforts
they've made. It is possibly the best Dominus
since the 2001, and perhaps even the 1997 or
1991. A beautiful, sweet nose of roasted
coffee interwoven with kirsch, black currant,
cedar, and spice box emerges from this deep
ruby/purple-colored wine. The wine has
fabulous intensity, a layered, opulent,
full-bodied mouthfeel, well-integrated
acidity, and a stunningly long finish.
The layering of this wine as it builds
incrementally on the palate is something to
behold. An outstanding, sexy, ageworthy
Dominus, it will benefit from 2-3 years of
cellaring, and last for at least 25 or 30
years. When I am tasting at Dominus, they
always present a wine opened the day before
and decanted, and one just opened, and the
extended aeration version always seems to be
the better example of the wine, so plenty of
decanting seems to be in order.
PEARSON'S PRICE $119.00 a bottle . . .
$699. a six bottle wooden case

The way Francis Ford Coppola tells it, his
grandfather, Agostino, made wine for the
family in the basement of their New York
apartment building.
As everyone knows, Coppola grew up to become one of Hollywood's most famous movie producers . . . "The Godfather" plus about 70 others. Must be the wine.
Now he's a winemaker, too.
His under $10 Rosso and Bianco are maybe the juiciest California wines you've ever tasted. The Rosso is an full-bodied, intense, spicy blend of Zinfandel, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon from Lodi and Paso Robles. The Bianco is made of Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay . . . a crisp, full-of-fruit white. Pinot Grigio used to be only Italian . . . now that it's grown in California, it's the second most popular white wine behind Chardonnay.
When we started with the 2004 vintage, the wines were so good they leaped off the shelves. Since then I have tried dozens of other brands . . . I haven't even mentioned them in an email since 2006.
But these delicious Coppola wines are uncontrollable . . . they continue to be our fastest selling wines.
Agostino would be proud.

I was given the opportunity to purchase 21
bottles of the 2000 vintage.
Chateau d'Yquem is the world's most famous dessert wine . . . made from 100% botrytized grapes . . . meaning the grapes have been infected by a fungus called the noble rot, which gives it its incredible sweetness and texture . . . at harvest time the pickers go through the vineyards nine or ten times or more . . . hand-harvesting only the ripest, infected grapes and discarding the rest . . . this is the most expensive and time consuming harvest on earth.
This botrytisation of the grapes begins in September . . . each morning Sauternes is heavy and wet with fog . . . then warm, drying winds arrive in the afternoon . . . this repetitive phenomenon is responsible for the botrytis.
Normally I would leap ten foot vines for anything called d'Yquem . . . but the 2000 vintage was, to say the least, questionable . . . the harvest was almost impossible . . . heavy rains in October diluted the yields substantially . . . d'Yquem's normal four or five thousand case production was reduced to a mere 2,000 cases . . . I had to do some research.
First obstacle . . . neither the Wine Advocate nor the Wine Spectator bothered to review the 2000 . . . uh, oh.
I dug further . . . uncovering a report from a monumental tasting of 65 vintages of d'Yquem which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark over two days in April of 2005. This was a serious tasting. The oldest d'Yquem of the tasting was from 1847 . . . there, in the first course, paired with traditional foie gras, was the very first wine of the tasting . . . my subject wine . . . the 2000 d'Yquem.
My pulse quickened as I read their notes . . . "Only 20% of the harvest became Grand Vin, because of downpour from mid-October, which literally washed the remaining grapes away. It was also the last vintage with full involvement of Count Alexandre de Sur Saluces. Golden. Well-defined botritis, mango, apple and acacia honey. This was a delicate version of d'Yquem with great finess and elegance, concentrated with many nuances, sweetness and long aftertaste. Quite approachable right now, but can easily be enjoyed in the next 12-20 years." This group of 15 experienced tasters awarded the 2000 d'Yquem 93 points.
Read them all yourself . . . http://www.greatbordeauxwines.com/Yquem.html . . . fascinating.
The last test . . . my taste . . . the wine is light golden with delicate aromas of honey and mango . . . at seven years the wine is quite young . . . well balanced between acidity and an unctuous, palate-coating finish . . . you could drink it New Year's Eve . . . or you could wait a decade.
I bought them all.
As I first reported there were 21 bottles . . . less the one we tasted . . . and less the six pack I allocated to my granddaughter, Sarah, who was also born in the year 2000.
So now we're down to 14 . . . which I will dole out ONE BOTTLE PER CUSTOMER . . . while they last . . . at $199 per bottle.
Price note . . . $199 you ponder? . . . it's a steal . . . the lowest price I could find anywhere is $165 a HALF BOTTLE . . . full bottles run as much as $500.
Enjoy.

not a typo.
We have been offered a large quantity
overstock of the
RIEDEL CHARDONNAY "O" SERIES
WINE GLASS
it's stemless . . . almost 4" tall and
can hold over 11 ounces (if filled to the
brim) . . . it's a terrific all-purpose glass
. . . for everyday white or red wine . . .
for juice . . . or for cocktails.
BUT . . . there is a conundrum . . . although the folks at Riedel would like us to sell a great quantity . . . more than 2,400 of them believe it or not . . . they are not too crazy about seeing the discounted price published all over the place.
SO . . . I told them I'd try it their way . . . for the best price you've ever seen on this product . . . CALL 202 333 6666 or EMAIL steve@PearsonsWine.com
The stemless "O" series is the greatest revolution in wine glasses I have ever seen. We have sold over 5,000 of them since they were first introduced just two years ago. Even people who vowed they would never drink wine from a stemless wine glass are now buying them by the dozens . . . because the shapes are correct . . . because they don't break in the dishwasher . . . because they are easy to store . . . and because the prices are a fraction of Riedel's traditional wine glass.
The regular price for this particular glass is $10 each . . . we have reduced that price substantially.
There are a few rules . . .
BUT . . . the only way to find out the price is to call 202 333 6666 or email steve@PearsonsWine.com . . . or come in the store where the NEW REDUCED PRICE is not a secret.

That's Steve with a bottle of 100 point Lot
No 29 . . . along with Etienne de Nantes and
Robert Perti before things got started.
Thanks to everyone who joined us at our "ethereal" Cognac tasting Friday night. When the tasting began we had more than twenty cases available . . . by eight o'clock there were only bottles.
Fortunately, we still have an open bottle of each and limited numbers of the 100 and 98 point Cognacs left for you to buy. Please come in for a taste.
For wine enthusiasts, the name Tesseron belongs to the family which owns Chateau Pontet-Canet of Pauillac and Chateau Lafon-Rochet of St Estephe . . . two of Bordeaux' most highly respected Chateaux.
But their heritage . . . and wealth . . . began in Cognac where Abel Tesseron founded the family's little known . . . yet highly regarded . . . Cognac enterprise over 150 years ago.
Great-great grandaugher, Melanie Tesseron, visited us last year . . . with three of the most sublime examples of Cognac I have ever tasted . . . from 1929, 1953 and 1976.
These bottlings are blends of the vintage AND OLDER . . . so the Tesserons have cleverly disguised the bottles by calling them Lot No 29, Lot No 53 and Lot No 76 . . . which translates to mean that they are made from a blend of Cognac from 1929 and older; 1953 and older; and 1976 and older.
Special prices will apply while our supplies last . . .
TESSERON TRADITION LOT NO 29 XO GRANDE
CHAMPAGNE COGNAC
an XO blend of 70 years and older, from
1929 and earlier
Robert Parker's Hedonist's Guide, 100
points:
"We finished with a rare Cognac that may
not yet be available in the United States.
The Tesseron family . . . released tiny
quantities of single vintage Cognacs.
Although French law does not permit a vintage
date to be used, this is all from 1929
[Steve's note: actually it is from 1929 and
older], and is very limited in availability.
I'm not an expert on Cognac, but anything
this smooth, silky, potent, and aromatic, is
truly great stuff. It is about as ethereal
Cognac as anyone could ever hope to drink."

TESSERON TRADITION LOT NO 53 XO GRANDE
CHAMPAGNE COGNAC
an XO blend of 50 years and older, from
1953 and earlier
Robert Parker's Hedonist's Guide, 98
points:
"We finished with the new release of
Tesseron's Cognac. The Tesseron family made
its fortune in the Cognac business, and it is
one of the few families to possess ancient
stocks of great vintages that have not been
diluted with water or manipulated in any
manner. They released small quantities of Lot
29 (1929), which remains the most ethereal
Cognac I have ever tasted. I'm no expert, but
their newest release, the 1953, seems close
in quality to the 1929. Slightly darker than
the 1929, the 1953 is pure silk, which at
this alcohol level is very dangerous indeed.
The complex aromatics can fill a room."

Stars Highly Recommended:
"The pristine condition of this
stunningly copper-colored brandy is inspiring
- it's gorgeous. In the nose there are
delicate fragrances of spice, sesame seed,
light oak, and baked pears; seven more
minutes in the glass bring out pineapple,
light toffee, milk, and brown sugar. The
palate entry is elegant, composed, and
moderately sweet in more of an oaky than a
fruity way; by the midpalate stage, there's
flavor evidence of ripe pear, white grapes,
cake frosting, Oloroso sherry, orange peel,
and dark honey. End up sugary sweet, satiny
textured, and long in the throat."

"Eye-catching topaz/honey color; dazzling
purity. The opening smells include pears,
apples, and soda water; additional air
contact releases delicate, fruity scents of
banana in brandy, cotton candy, maple, and
new oak. The palate entry is light, sweet,
and grapy ripe; the midpalate is chewier in
texture, more honeyed in taste than the entry
phase and tropical fruit-like. Finishes
satiny smooth, sugary/piney sweet, and
medium-long. Nice job."
