QUINTA DE LA ROSA DOURO VINHO TINTO 2005
OTHER RETAILERS ARE SELLING THIS WINE FOR $20 AND MORE. WE HAVE THIS 90 PT WINE FOR HALF THE PRICE!

Quinta de la Rosa is a small family owned vineyard situated in Northern Portugal in the heart of the port growing region. The property is owned by the Bergqvist family, formerly trading under the family name of Feuerheerd Bros, who have been shipping Port Wine since 1815.

In 1988 Tim Bergqvist, and his daughter Sophia, decided to re-launch Quinta de La Rosa as an independent estate. They took advantage of the change in Port Wine regulations which enables producers to sell Port direct from their estates and not through the established houses based at Vila Nova de Gaia, near Oporto.

The Douro is best known for their ports but thanks to the efforts of producers like Sophia and her father, quality wines are now being produced and exported. La Rosa produces a variety of red and white wines using native varietals. Among them, touriga nacional, touriga france, tinta roriz and tinta cao, most used to make port as well. The winemaker of Quinta is Jorge Moreira. He trained under Jerry Looper, a California winemaker, so he has many international influences as well as the local knowledge to help him make his wines. Sophia is of the opinion that it's important not to isolate yourself from the wines of the world but rather, to be able to compare and contrast international wines with your own, the better they learn and improve. Jorge agrees with Sophia wholeheartedly and it is evident in the wines he produces.
Wine Enthusiast 90 points: "A great structured, finely textured wine. The black tarry fruit, sweet licorice and black currant flavors all hang together well, leaving ripeness and feel of elegance."
Winery Notes: "The 2005 De La Rosa Douro Tinto is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca all of which are grape varietals in port wines. The wine has all the usual Douro characteristics but is lighter and fresher in style with less overpowering density. On the nose, it is pretty, fragrant and aromatic. It is grapey and youthful, with rounded texture and rather tasty, exuberant flavors. The wine is medium bodied, very elegant with a round, balanced structure. Subtle aromas and flavours that show great complexity with every component of the blend well integrated and well defined. Its equilibrium is a dominant factor which will allow the wine to age well and give enormous pleasure. Lovely red fruit flavours come through especially strawberries, raspberries and white cherry with a subtle touch of lime. Well integrated tannins, sufficient to support the wine and give it some verve, but likely to integrate well in the immediate future."

BODEGAS SIERRA MIRA SALINAS 2004
WINE BY THE GREAT ERIC SOLOMAN SELECTIONS
THE 2005 VINTAGE WAS RELEASED ($40- $50) AND WAS RATED 93 PTS FROM ROBERT PARKER AND THIS WINE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RATED THE SAME IF IT HAD BEEN GRADED.

Bodegas Sierra Salinas is situated at the lowest part of Sierra Salinas Mountains in Villena, between the provences of Murcia and Alicante in Spain. The Castano family acquired and re-organized some old vineyards and built a state of the art with gravilty flow facility in the foothills at about 650 meters above sea level.Due to having different types of soils, diverse isolations and different altitudes within the same area there is a wide assortment of different microclimates, "continental" being the predominant one, showing some Mediterranean connotations such as cold winters, warm summers and dryness.
Stephen Tanzer International Wine Cellar 90 points: "(65% monastrell, 25% cabernet sauvignon and 10% garnacha) Dark red. Gently oaky aromas of bright redcurrant, cherry and vanilla. Taut red and dark berry flavors are sweetened by vanilla, mocha and cola, and framed by a gentle mineral spine. Finishes focused, sweet and long."
Winery Notes: " Monastrell and Garnacha Tintorera Vines 29 aged years Cabernet Sauvignon aged 13 years. Shiny and well covered red cherry colour. Intense nose of elegant noble wood notes which mix with liquorice and very ripe fruits (morello cherries). Elegant and volumous in the mouth in the mouth. Velvet like, dense, without peaks, gentle with hints of toasted bread and smoke it has a long persistent aftertaste."
