Wine makes daily living easier, less hurried, with fewer tensions and more tolerance.
I hope everyone is enjoying the day off in observance of Martin Luther King Day. Pearson's will be open all day and we have a seriously good wine that is ready to be drank from Languedoc-Rousillon on sale at half the price and open for tasting all day.
CHATEAU LA BARONNE
The Famille Lignères estate is situated in the shadow of the Montagne d'Alaric just 40 km from the Mediterranean coast in the Languedoc between Narbonne and Carcassonne.
The ridge of the Alaric mountains immediately to the west of the estate mark the limit of the Mediterranean influence on the climate, but the prevailing winds for much of the year come from the continental/Atlantic side. The Cers, a westerly or northwesterly wind, frequently reaches speeds of 50 knots. In summer, breezes off the Mediterranean temper the heat.
The estate currently covers 90 hectares of vineyards shared on successions of terraces, hills and little valleys oriented West to East and facing mainly East. They are spread across differently textured limestone based soils. Some areas have more clay, some more sandstone and higher mineral content, each impressing their own specific character on the wines. For those geomorphological and geological reasons we have produced a range of wines, each designed to underline the specifics of the most attractive vineyard plot.
This vineyard of the Lignères family is very fortunate, it has a lot of doctors to take care of it! André and Suzette have pampered it for 50 years and now the younger generation continues to be challenged with the old vines. You'll surely share this passion when tasting their wines.
The medical family with wine in their veins. André (a general practitioner) and Suzette (a pharmacist), are now able to take a back seat as their sons Jean (Doctor of the village of Moux like his father before him) and his wife Anne, Paul (a dentist) and Geneviève (a biologist) look after the estate. At La Baronne, the traditional grape varieties of the Languedoc have always been the order of the day... the old Carignans (up to 115 years old!), Grenache Noir, Syrah and Mourvedre for the reds (90% of the vineyards).
But the Lignères Family has a special affection for Carignan, constantly striving to heighten the expression, finesse and elegance of this emblematic variety of the region.
