Have we got a treat for you today!

ANDERSON'S CONN VALLEY VINEYARDS

Never heard of them? Well you have been missing out!

The first vintage on the market was the 1988 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Within just a few years, the critics were showering father and son, Gus and Todd Anderson and the young winery with accolades and scores rated in the 90's.

"Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon tastes like the best young Bordeaux wines in great vintages." - Robert Parker The Wine Advocate

"Bright star that's distinctive and consistent." - The Wine Spectator

Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards are located just east of St. Helena in the Napa Valley where Conn Creek flows out of Howell Mountain. Twenty-six acres of vineyards, divided into nine blocks, along with a fifteen acre-foot resevour are the heart of this 40-acre grape-growing paradise.

Separated from the Napa Valley floor by a north/south running ridge, the world-renowned wineries of Joseph Heitz and Joseph Phelps are located on the west side of this ridge and the Anderson's Estate Vineyards are on the east side at a perfect elevation of 400 feet.

The vineyards not only enjoy Napa Valley's superb microclimate, but share the same Bale Loam Series as are found on the famous Rutherford Bench. This combination of clay-loam soil and microclimate produces up to 106 tons of exceptional fruit each year. One from which a world-class Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux-style blend, called Éloge, can be artfully handcrafted.

Three grape varieties are grown on the Conn Valley property. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Both the Estate Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) and the blended Bordeaux-style Èloge come from these grapes. The Èloge blend is slightly different each year, but typically contains Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Both wines are renowned for their refined elegance and silky finesse.

ANDERSON'S CONN VALLEY PROLOGUE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2007

So what happens when one of Napa's hottest red wine producers has leftovers after blending some of their greatest wines ever from the benchmark 2007 vintage? We wish they would have called us. But we guess we'll just have to be content with their Prologue, one of the finest values you'll ever see on a Cabernet from Napa. All the hallmark elegance, black fruits and Margaux-like florality associated with Conn Valley just with the volume turned down a touch and at half the price! Works for us. Remember, this is all estate juice, with the stuff that did 'make the cut' before this wine was produced garnering 94-100 points from Robert Parker himself. Just telling you, this is no-brainer city...
Winery Notes: "This outstanding 100% Cabernet is bright, pretty and already complex, unfolding its cherry, red currant, violet, vanilla and rose petal aromas in a decidedly elegant aromatic profile. It is flavorful and supple, but quietly crisp on the palate, where its cherry, violet, sandalwood, toast and vanilla flavors linger beautifully. This is a classy and polished bottling, with enough tannin to balance it for rich sauces."

ANDERSON'S CONN VALLEY ESTATE RESERVE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2006

The Wine Advocate 94 points: "In the more irregular vintage of 2006, the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve has also turned out strong, with sweet creme de cassis fruit intermixed with incense, charcoal, and hints of asphalt and creosote, along with some subtle smoky barrel smells. The wine has a big, substantial mouthfeel, firm but sweet tannins, and a generous, savory finish with outstanding purity and extract. This wine is more backward, as one might expect in this vintage, but it promises to evolve for 25+ years as well."

ANDERSON'S CONN VALLEY ELOGE NAPA VALLEY 2005

The Wine Advocate 96 points: "The 2005 Eloge is a staggering wine that is utterly profound. Its extraordinary aromas of incense, cedar wood, creme de cassis, kirsch, spice box, and gamey smokiness as well as forest floor make for one of the most complex wines I smelled over the two weeks I spent in Napa. Full-bodied flavors are followed by a wine with sweet tannins, beautifully deep, concentrated layered fruit flavors, and a long, heady finish. This is gorgeous stuff that should evolve nicely for 15 or more years."
